The domestic mobile phone market continues to be depressed: shipments in October fell 27.3%

On November 13, it was reported that the Chinese Academy of Communications, a domestic authority, today released a report on the shipment volume of the domestic mobile phone market in October 2020.

According to the report, the overall shipment volume of the domestic mobile phone market in October was 26.153 million units, down 27.3% year on year. This is the sixth consecutive month since May this year that the shipment volume has declined year on year. So far this year, only April has seen positive growth. From January to October, the domestic mobile phone market shipped 252 million units, down 22.1% year on year. It seems that due to the epidemic, price rise and other factors, domestic users are not very willing to purchase this year.

The enthusiasm of manufacturers to develop new machines is also fading. In October, 28 new machines were launched, 42.9% less than last year.

Only the share of 5G mobile phones is still growing steadily. The report said that 16.76 million 5G mobile phones were shipped in October this year, accounting for 64.1% of all mobile phones in the same period. This year, the overall share of 5G mobile phones also accounted for 49.4%.

It is worth mentioning that, in its report, the ICT Academy mentioned that 20.322 million mobile phones were shipped by domestic brands in October. Considering the overall share of foreign brands in the Chinese market at present, most of the remaining 5.831 million mobile phones should be shipped from the new iPhone 12 series launched by Apple that month.
