Surprisingly, Samsung S6 edge/Moto X Pro/Xiaomi 2s/P618L photo contrast
Surprisingly, Samsung S6 edge/Moto X Pro/Xiaomi 2s/P618L photo contrast

Because it is difficult to open the gap in daytime imaging of mobile phones, it is rarely compared with daytime samples in horizontal review of photos. However, this is an old consensus. In order to verify whether it is still valid, we take today's flagship S6 edge and Moto X Pro, the old domestic flagship Xiaomi 2s, and the TCL P618L, a thousand yuan machine, to take photos in the daytime.

Camera parameters

  • Edge is a 16 million pixel sensor, F1.9 aperture, OIS optical anti shake, and the tester is American version. Since the recent disassembly found that the version of the Bank of China is ISOCELL (Hong Kong Bank IMX240), it is temporarily impossible to determine the model of the sensor used by the US version);

  • It is a Sony 13 million image IMX214 sensor, the sensor size is 1/3.06 inch, the unit pixel is 1.12 μ m, F2.0 aperture, OIS optical anti shake, and the testing machine is a national version;

  • Sony 13 million pixel IMX135 sensor, F2.2 aperture, 32G telecom version for testing machine, MIUI6 for system;

  • TCL P618L is a 13 million pixel sensor. The aperture and sensor model are unknown. The system is near native Android 4.4.4.

The following orders are the same: Moto X Pro on the top left, S6 edge on the top right, TCL P618L on the bottom left, and Xiaomi 2s on the bottom right. All machines are in automatic mode with their own cameras, and the focus of all proofs is at the right center.

Daytime perspective sample

From an equal ratio view, except for the S6 edge, which is 16 million pixels at 16:9, the rest are 13 million pixels at 4:3. Although S6 has a large horizontal wide-angle of 120 degrees, its vertical field of vision is still smaller than that of other machines (when the left side is roughly aligned, there is an additional picture on the right side), while the other three wide-angles are very close in size.

Compared with the size of the same doorway in the four groups of samples, the same scene in the S6 edge sample will appear larger, that is, the same scene will have more pixels. If the pixel is the same as the wide-angle, in theory, its discrimination will be better.

Central amplification

However, in practice, S6 edge seems to be less discriminative than the powerful sharpened Moto X Pro. However, in terms of magnification details, S6 edge is softer and cleaner, and noise control is also better. Since the ISO of the upper two parts can be pressed to 40, while that of the lower TCL P618L and Xiaomi 2s can only be pressed to 100, the images of the latter two parts have obvious noise. What's more sad is that the old flagship Xiaomi 2s is even less discriminative than the 1000 yuan machine

At the bottom of the center of the sample, Moto X Pro has serious edge degradation. The S6 edge still needs a lot of image quality, but it still cannot leave the 1000 yuan machine and the old flagship for 2s.

In the far view, the central part is equally enlarged to 80%. The S6 edge is still a bit larger than other devices.

In the distant view, although the S6 edge has more details, at first glance it does not have the analytical power of Moto X Pro, and its analytical power is only slightly better than that of the thousand yuan machine and the old flagship Mi2s.

The scene was a haze day, and the white balance of the four machines obviously deviated: Moto X Pro was photographed as a rainy and cloudy day, S6 edge became a sunny day, TCL P618L photometry was uncontrollably overexposed, and Xiaomi 2 was relatively closer to reality (but still slightly green and blue).

In the central magnification, Moto X Pro has powerful sharpening, which seems to have strong discrimination, but the details of the picture are still inferior to S6 edge; TCL P618L was overexposed, and a large amount of red and green noise appeared. However, due to its strong sharpening, the absolute discrimination power was still above Xiaomi 2s.

At the edge of the lower right corner of the screen, you can even see the transition of Moto X Pro edge degradation (the upper light is still clear, the lower light and the leaves on the edge are all pasted), while the TCL P618L is still overexposed with serious noise, and has a certain degree of edge degradation.

In the original drawing, the alignment point is the building close to "infinity". The TCL P618L in the lower left corner is still unable to control its brightness due to its disabled photometry.

In the center, the white balance of m 2s is yellow, and the Moto X Pro is dark. In terms of discrimination, the original judgment is still maintained. Although S6 edge has many picture details, its absolute sharpness is weaker than that of the sharpened Moto X Pro, which is the strongest, followed by TCL P618L and Mi2s.

The right edge is enlarged, and the edge degradation of Moto X Pro causes its discrimination force to be inverted by S6 edge. In this big light difference scene, Moto X Pro and S6 edge are equipped with better sensors, which bring the dark details of killing the thousand yuan machine and the meter 2s (IMX135). The noise control is much, much better.

The dark part at the bottom of the center is magnified, and the S6 edge has better discrimination, followed by Moto X Pro and the 1000 yuan machine. The saturation of the dark part of the meter 2s is lost very seriously, which directly changes to the black and white mode, and the details are lost seriously, which makes it extremely abused.

The performance of the following sample sheet is very close to that of the above, so no more analysis will be made here:

Compared with the above samples that are often magnified to 100% - 150%, the gap between machines of different prices and ages becomes very obvious in still life and macro samples.

The petal and leaf details of the S6 edge sample easily killed peers, and Moto X Pro also exploded several streets of the 1000 yuan machine. Xiaomi 2s was burnt because of the close focusing distance, so it did not put its sample.

The indoor light intensity at the scene is strong, close to the office light, but far from the sunlight. This kind of scene accounts for a large proportion of the cameras used by everyone (this is one of the main lighting environments for indoor decoration and shooting friends' circle materials).

S6 edge has a large aperture and optical anti shake slow shutter addition, which makes it easy to hang the whole court; The optical anti shake of Moto X Pro brings cleaner and less noisy images, but the detail discrimination fails to open the gap with Xiaomi 2s; The thousand yuan machine represents the TCL P618L, which is blasted out of residue under weak light.

summary

The test results do not differ greatly from the expectations:

  • The comparison of the samples of the daytime perspective (which covers the common distance of the buildings for traveling to take photos of mountains and waters) basically proves the old consensus that "mobile phone daytime imaging cannot open the gap", which is stronger than sensors such as IMX220/IMX214, but also fails to open the gap with the 1000 yuan machine and the IMX135 more than two years ago;

  • In the close range, even in the macro range (covering the scenes of taking pictures of people's faces and food), the imaging gap between models of different prices and times will be obvious, and the closer the camera is, the greater the difference will be;

  • Indoor light and weak light scenes are still the largest scenes in the mobile imaging room, In terms of the performance of white balance, photometry and focusing speed and accuracy, international brand flagship still has overwhelming advantages over thousand yuan machine and domestic old flagship.

  • After including close range, macro range and weak light projects, S6 edge photography is really strong, and Moto X Pro is not bad, but the overall performance of TCL P618L and Xiaomi 2s is really not good. In addition, this once again proves that many thousand yuan machines (P618L, yes, it means you) that use Android native photography applications are really poor in white balance, light metering, and focusing

Of course, there are also completely unexpected and even surprising parts:

  • Samsung has changed its habit of sharpening on S6 edge, and the pictures look natural and clean. However, as a price, even with 16 million pixels, the discrimination/sharpness of S6 edge's medium and long-term vision is actually weaker than that of Moto X Pro with strong sharpness;

  • Although they all use near native photography applications, the obvious sharpening marks on Moto X and Moto X Pro indicate that Moto actually has its own photography algorithm tuning (moto: are you sure this is not blacking me?)

Many Samsung fans (including the powerful Samsung fan @ Feiwei in my station) expressed dissatisfaction with the results of the sample comparison and asked for a replay. So we will take photos of Samsung flagship ships in the daytime in the near future. Please pay attention.
