Breaking superstition, Huawei P50 Pro, Mate 40 Pro, Xiaomi 11 Ultra, iPhone 12 PM took photos

This year, we are all waiting for the domestic flagship CMOS war, the 1/1.12-inch Samsung GN2 war and the 1/1.18-inch IMX800 war. However, P50 Pro+did not appear in Huawei's press conference on July 29. The Huawei P50 Pro uses a 1/1.56 inch main camera, a 40 million pixel black and white sub camera, a 3.5 times 64 million pixel telephoto, and a conventional 13 million pixel ultra wide angle.

Let's now compare the photos taken by Huawei P50 Pro, Mate 40 Pro (IMX700), Xiaomi 11 Ultra (GN2), and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

This photo comparison is to test the telephoto, so it is divided into five parts: "main camera, ultra wide angle, 3.5x, 5x and 10x zoom". For 15 test scenarios, 64 groups of samples were selected at last, and the central enlarged picture was below each group of samples for "counting hairs".

All mobile phones are in automatic mode, and the focus is in the center of the screen.

Specification comparison

The main camera and ultra wide-angle hardware specifications of Huawei P50 Pro have been reduced, but the telephoto has been enhanced. Previously, only ZTE had used a 6400W 1/2 inch sensor for telephoto, but Huawei gave a 3.5x periscope lens to cover 3.5x to 100x, equivalent to 90mm to 2700mm.

In terms of overall specifications, Xiaomi 11 Ultra is still the strongest, followed by Mate 40 Pro and P50 Pro. The iPhone naturally ranks at the bottom of the list for ten thousand years (Apple fan: only inferior hardware can set off superior algorithms, which is the perfect balance between thickness and photography).

Subjective contrast

Huawei Mate 40 Pro and P50 Pro have different main CMOS, but maintain the setting of cutting frame. The default output of the main camera is cut to equivalent 27mm, while the actual focal length is equivalent 23mm, corresponding to 0.8x zoom.

The iPhone with an equivalent size of 26mm has the most advantage in discrimination due to the small field of vision of the lens. Huawei and Xiaomi are both large wide-angle lenses with similar equivalent focal lengths, but the former is digitally cropped.

Xiaomi's noise reduction algorithm wipes almost all the wood grain, but retains some details of the sofa checkered fabric. Both Huawei and Huawei AI have rich wood patterns, but the texture of the sofa cloth is completely different from the actual situation (the actual situation of the scene can be seen in the final 10x zoom proof).

3.5x zoom contrast

Huawei P50 Pro's 3.5x telephoto special session is better than the whole picture's 3.5x full discrimination. Both Mate 40 Pro and Xiaomi 11 Ultra are the central details of the main camera+5x ultra telephoto "subsidy" picture. The central part is actually 3.5x to 5x, but the filling area is limited, and it is not available in weak light.

The light in this scene is too weak, and neither Mate 40 Pro nor P50 Pro can trigger the telephoto. In fact, it is the main cutting. The IMX586 telephoto of Xiaomi 11 Ultra is still firm and the light measurement is dim, but it is actually the closest to what you can see with the naked eye, and the only one that can understand what is written on the board.

Different from the 5x zoom, the two HUAWEIs have enabled the telephoto lens again when the zoom is 10x. At first glance, Mate 40 Pro looks the best.

(But in fact, after noise reduction, both Huawei and Huawei have obvious AI processing, and the wood fonts are distorted, and the wood grain details are unknown)

summary

iPhone 12 Pro Max: After a year of polishing, in addition to the unparalleled lens glare, the dark part is easy to blacken out, and the noise cannot be wiped clean, the main photography performance is extremely balanced, with the most accurate white balance, and relatively accurate metering. However, the ultra wide angle and telephoto hardware (especially ultra wide angle) of the door cutting cannot even save Apple's algorithm in the dark scene.

Mate 40 Pro: The white balance of RYYB has been greatly improved, but some solid color scenes are also relentless. The dynamic range and detail performance of the main camera are still strong. The 5x telephoto multi frame synthesis is slow and the dynamic range is weaker, but the film rate and details are higher than those of P50 Pro. "Long focus ultra wide angle" is more like going to the wrong set in front of three real wide angle mobile phones, killing the details and dim light performance of all living beings, but there is not enough vision.

Xiaomi 11 Ultra: After several OTAs, Xiaomi 11 Ultra has become stronger. A few "anti sharpening" large factories have less MSG flavor and natural details. The night vision night vision meter and white balance are OK, but there is still a distance in front of the iPhone, which is not as accurate as the P50 Pro. There are HDR algorithms that can approach Huawei, and highlight suppression is second only to Huawei. It is highly likely that the white balance of bright parts will turn blue, but there are invincible color details. The night owl algorithm still has excessive sharpening and smearing, losing a lot of details, but manually turning off the night scene mode will have the same appearance as "fog". It's a dilemma.

The ultra wide-angle vision is wide, the dynamic range and saturation are all suitable, but the power of discrimination is general, which does not meet everyone's expectations. For the IMX586, if it fails to kill 1.12 μ m ultra wide angle in seconds, it is already lost. However, the 5 times telephoto is still one of the strongest. Although I am a super wide angle fan, I also like this super telephoto. The film rate is far higher than P50 Pro, with strong details and dynamic range. The weaker the light is, the stronger it becomes. The main problem is the white balance of the current firmware and the photography experience (the photography experience is only slightly better than the telephoto of P50 Pro).

Huawei P50 Pro: Huawei may have fallen into philosophical contemplation when studying AI optimization algorithms, "Why use hardware if it can be solved by software?" Then Mate 40 Pro removed the optical anti shake of IMX700, while P50 Pro and even IMX700 were replaced (the real reason may also be the ban).

  1. Even if the IMX700 of RYYB does not have optical anti shake, the amount of light entering is all the IMX766 of rolling optical anti shake. I don't know because the sensor is smaller? The contrast and hair color of Huawei P50 Pro are more "elegant" in order to "restore the real" style. The dynamic range, contrast, and dark details of the dark scene are not as good as those of the Mate 40 Pro, or even the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The current firmware algorithm is not strong enough to break the hardware gap back. The advantage of Huawei P50 Pro is close to the white balance of iPhone and stronger HDR algorithm. Mate 40 never expected that its "highlight suppression" would be suppressed one day.

  2. The weakening of ultra wide angle is even more obvious, falling from the 2000W/1.6 μ m of Mate 40 Pro to the ordinary flagship level of 1300W/1.12 μ m. However, this is a real super wide angle, with a field of vision close to that of the iPhone, slightly smaller than that of Xiaomi 11 Ultra. It is impossible to compare the analytical power with the M40P's "long focus ultra wide angle". The glare and edge degradation control are general. The white balance of the tester firmware is unstable, so that we thought it was RYYB.

However, Huawei has squeezed this ultra wide angle completely, and the actual effect is not much worse than that of the Xiaomi 11 Ultra IMX586 (which can only be pulled in the high pixel mode), and the weak light performance is far more than expected. The injury is not high, but the insult is very strong.

  3. The P50 Pro's maximum improvement is in the telephoto sub camera. 6400W, 1/2 inch, is one of the strongest telephoto sensors today, but the magnification of the periscope is less than 5 times that of S20 Ultra/Xiaomi 10U/11U. The official said that collaborative work+computational photography, a set of conceptual marketing combination, almost blinded by faith.

The actual performance is not as exaggerated as what the media teacher said earlier. In fact, 5 to 10 times zoom cannot win Xiaomi 11 Ultra and Mate 40 Pro. But it is better than the wide coverage of the focal section. It can take off at 3.5 times. It can also use weak light. The dynamic range and saturation are both good. The main problem now is that the film rate is low (the cost of computational photography?), and the requirement for handheld is high.

  4. Compared with the Mate 40 Pro, the P50 Pro is a victory in the absolute picture quality focusing section of the main camera and ultra wide angle. As long as the main camera is not pulled apart by the Mate 40 Pro, it is a victory. See if the firmware can further tap the potential of the IMX600 black and white sub camera.

And the "reality DLSS" of computational photography also makes us fall into philosophical meditation again. Based on the limited picture details, we can deduce the actual image, which may produce the details of wood grain, wall texture, text and so on that do not exist. What details really exist? Where should I set the degree of AI to fill the local details not captured by the sensor?
