Samsung's new patent exposure; Folding screen phone+rotating camera

On July 23, the Dutch media LetsGoDigital exposed Samsung's new patent of "folding screen mobile phone+rotary camera".

This patent document of Samsung has 49 pages, and the name is a bit awkward: "Foldable electronic equipment with rotary camera on the hinge", which was submitted to WIPO World Intellectual Property Office on January 14, 2021 and published on July 22.

The core idea of the patent is to integrate a rotatable camera in the hinge/pivot of a Galaxy Z Flip 2 folding screen phone. The purpose is to remove the front camera opening of the inner screen, while leaving room for a larger outer screen. Therefore, the mobile phone can also provide a variety of camera angle modes similar to the Lenovo YOGA tablet.

However, the problem that cannot be ignored is that the hinge/shaft in the patent cannot be hidden, and the bulge of a large part will greatly affect the feel. The current Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 2 can hide the hinge/pivot when the screen is unfolded.

This appearance patent, similar to the Nokia N92 released in 2008, is a flip cover. It is a camera on the axis. Nokia calls the expert directly.

Samsung's current two folding screen routes are Galaxy Z Fold 2 to increase the screen area and Galaxy Z Flip 2 to reduce the phone area. Compared with patents for pit occupation, The foreseeable trend of Galaxy Z Flip series is that the outer screen will continue to increase and the camera under the screen will be introduced, rather than adding additional mechanical structure.
