On March 24, it was reported that a Windows 10 device named qualcomm QRD appeared in the GeekBench database, which was equipped with the yet to be released Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen3 Notebook SoC. The performance of this device has greatly improved compared with the previous generation 8cx Gen 2, and it has broken the multi-core record of Qualcomm.
The code of Snapdragon 8cx Gen3 is SC8280, the code of the previous generation of Snapdragon 8cx Gen2 is SC8180XP, and the previous generation of 8cx is SC8180X (yes, the second generation just squeezed some toothpaste). This Snapdragon 8cx Gen3 device has only one score record, showing that the core frequency is 2.69GHz, which is consistent with the previous explosion. It is reported that the Snapdragon 8cx Gen3 is an 8-core structure of 4+4. The frequency of four "Gold+" cores is 2.7GHz, and the frequency of four "Gold" cores is 2.43GHz.
From the perspective of 982 single cores, the core architecture of Snapdragon 8cx Gen3 may be "Kryo585 Gold" (similar to A77 architecture), which is the same as the Snapdragon 865/865+/870 series. It is estimated that Qualcomm will change its name to "Kryo595".
The multi-core score reached 4918 points, setting a new multi-core record for Qualcomm SoC, far exceeding Snapdragon 888 (3600 points). In contrast, the HP Elite Folio notebook of the previous generation Snapdragon 8cx Gen2 is a single core 797 and a multi-core 3105. It is estimated that the other four cores of Snapdragon 8cx Gen3 are also Kryo585 level architectures, but the frequency is lower.
Compared with the just released One Plus 9 Pro (Snapdragon 888), the latter's X1 architecture is more advanced, and there is no doubt that a single core score of more than 1100 points will be won, but the mid core and small core of Snapdragon 888 are too weak, and the multi-core score is only 3600-3700.
Compared with Xiaomi 10S of Snapdragon 870, although the super core frequency of Snapdragon 870 is as high as 3.2GHz, its single core performance is only smaller than that of Snapdragon 8cx Gen3.
But compared with Apple's M1, all beings are equal, and all are brothers. Apple M1 has more than 1700 single cores and more than 7600 multi cores, which is still not comparable.
The core architecture of Snapdragon 8cx Gen3 is at least the same level product of Snapdragon 865. It's a little bit sincere, but it's a bit late (it hasn't been released by the end of March 2021). It's also a pity that X1 and A78 architectures are not used. We can only wait for the next generation of Snapdragon 8cx Gen4.
