Howell Technology launched OV50A sensor: 50 million pixels, 1/1.55 inch

On February 17, it was reported that OmniVision today announced the launch of the new mobile phone CMOS sensor OV50A.

This OV50A has 50 million pixels and a size of 1/1.55 inch. In the 50 million pixel mode, the single pixel size is 1 μ m. In the normal mode, the four in one output is 12.5 million pixels. At this time, the equivalent single pixel size is 2 μ m.

One of the major promotional selling points of this sensor is focusing performance. The OV50A supports Quad Phase Detection (QPD) focusing, which can achieve 2 × 2, 100% coverage of PDAF phase focusing, improving the focusing speed and stability. Officially, it can provide single reflex auto focusing performance.

In terms of video, OV50A supports video recording of up to 8K 30fps, 4K 90fps, 1080P 240fps and 720P 480fps, with output bandwidth up to 3.5Gbps.

It is reported that OV50A will be launched in the second quarter of this year, and the official has not disclosed the first batch of manufacturers. Judging from the size and performance of the sensor itself, it may be used by some midrange models.

Howei Technology is currently the third largest supplier of mobile phone image sensors in the industry, second only to Sony and Samsung. Previously, the Xiaomi 10 Ultimate Commemorative Edition used an OV48C with 48 million pixels and 1/1.32 inch bottom as its main camera sensor.
