From single shot to double shot to multi shot with 4 or 5 lenses is an obvious trend in the development of mobile phone imaging system in recent years. However, some of these manufacturers are trying to enrich the focus section of mobile phone by increasing the number of lenses and enhance the overall level of the module, while some of them may just seek the name of multi shot, which has also led to the proliferation of multi shot mobile phones in the market.
A recent report from Counterpoint, a research organization, shows that smartphones shipped in the first quarter of this year were equipped with an average of 3.5 lenses, of which four camera phones already accounted for 20% of the total shipments. Counterpoint predicts that this number will grow to 31.6% by the end of this year.
So which manufacturers are most enthusiastic about piling up lenses? According to Counterpoint statistics, among all mobile phones shipped in the first quarter with four cameras and five cameras, OPPO、 Xiaomi, Samsung and Huawei ranked in the top four with a total share of 83%. Although realme only accounted for 8.7%, the four camera phones accounted for 66.1% of the phones shipped by the brand, and 57.7% of the phones shipped by OPPO, followed by Xiaomi, Huawei and Samsung.
Counterpoint principal Tom Kang said that the camera function has become a differentiated selling point of mobile phones, and the four cameras will become a development indicator. The head brand will continue to enrich and enhance mobile phone photography and video shooting experience and explore AR applications by using diversified lens/sensor combinations and increasingly enhanced AI computing power.
