On August 31, Samsung officially announced today that its second memory chip production line (covering an area of more than 128900 square meters) in Pingze, South Korea, has begun mass production of a new generation of 16Gb LPDDR5 memory chips for mobile devices.

The new 16Gb LPDDR5 memory chip is based on Samsung's 10nm EUV technology. Officially, it is the first memory to be mass produced using EUV technology. The packaging thickness is reduced by 30%, which can be better integrated into some models that need lightweight design (such as folding screen mobile phones).

In addition, the 16Gb LPDDR5 memory chip only needs 8 chips to package 16GB memory, compared with the previous generation of products that need 8 12Gb chips and 4 8Gb chips in total.

In terms of performance, the bandwidth of the new memory has reached 6400Mbps, which is 16% faster than the 12Gb LPDDR5-5500 memory used on the current flagship computer. 51.2GB of data can be transferred in one second.

Samsung officials said that the memory chip will be installed on the flagship mobile phone in 2021. In addition to mobile devices such as mobile phones, Samsung also plans to promote LPDDR5 memory to the mobile devices equipped with cars.
