Samsung: Galaxy S10 series sold steadily in the first quarter

On April 30, it was reported by foreign media that Samsung recently announced its performance in the first quarter of 2019. Samsung said that although its performance in the current quarter was negatively affected due to weak demand for memory chips and displays, Samsung's Galaxy S10 series had "sound sales". Although the seasonal weakness led to a decline in the overall demand for smart phones in this quarter, the revenue of the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+increased month on month compared with the fourth quarter of 2018.

Samsung also announced the shipment of mobile phones in the first quarter. The company shipped 78 million mobile phones in the world, while the shipment of tablets was 5 million.

Samsung pointed out that the restructuring of low-end and mid end mobile phones has damaged the growth of mobile phone shipments, leading to a decline in sales of previous models. In this quarter, Samsung replaced the Galaxy J midrange product line with the Galaxy A series. The new model has a larger battery capacity, multiple cameras on the back, and screen fingerprints on some models, which makes charging faster. However, the high cost of Galaxy A series, coupled with the increasing marketing expenditure, has reduced the profitability of the mobile sector.

The company expects that from April to June, the demand for smart phones will be slightly higher than that in the first quarter, and the Galaxy S10 5G and Galaxy A80 phones will help strengthen the product line in this quarter. In the second half of this year, the Galaxy Note 10 and the new Galaxy A models will help Samsung take advantage of the momentum and create better performance in the strong seasonal demand wave.

In the first quarter of this year, Samsung's mobile phone business revenue was 27.20 trillion won (about US $23.4 billion), compared with 28.54 trillion won in the first quarter of last year. Although the revenue decreased year on year, it increased from 23.32 trillion won in the previous quarter.
