Defeated by Intel, vice president of Qualcomm server technology leaves

As the leader in the mobile field, QUALCOMM has won a great victory in the portable device market, but it has not been smooth in the desktop and server markets. In 2014, Qualcomm announced its entry into the server market, built its own server chip based on ARM architecture, and established the QDT, the Qualcomm Data Center Business Unit. It can be said that Intel, an ambitious giant, is dedicated to challenging the server market.

However, from the perspective of market performance, Qualcomm's gains in the server market can be said to be very unsatisfactory, and few customers are willing to adopt the solutions provided. In this case, the relevant responsible persons of Qualcomm's servers will inevitably bear the consequences.

In May this year, Anand Chandrasekher, president of QDT, announced his resignation, and the QDT department was significantly streamlined, with a total of 280 layoffs. Now Dileep Bhandarkar, the vice president of technology who led the design of Qualcomm's server architecture at QDT, has also left. However, Bhandarkar and Qualcomm's official did not make a public statement about his resignation, but Bhandarkar revealed it in his conversation at SemiCon West 2018 semiconductor exhibition.

QDT The president and vice president of the department have resigned one after another, and the department has been significantly streamlined. The way of Qualcomm's servers seems to be not smooth. Although a Qualcomm spokesman said that Qualcomm is still committed to the business of data centers and will not give up, it is only to reduce investment for the time being, and will continue to promote joint investment in Guizhou, China. As for whether it can challenge Intel, it depends on how Qualcomm will continue.
