Taiwan Provincial Fair Trade Commission's anti-monopoly punishment of Qualcomm is RMB 5.08 billion, which will be repaid in installments of five years

In October last year, the Taiwan Provincial Fair Trade Commission determined that Qualcomm had a monopoly in the communications market, and Qualcomm had a monopoly position in the communications baseband chip market, forcing manufacturers to sign patent licenses, otherwise they would not provide chip support, seriously disrupting the market competitive environment. The Taiwan Provincial Fair Trade Commission will impose a penalty of NT $23.4 billion (about RMB 5.08 billion) on Qualcomm, and then Qualcomm filed an appeal in the local court of Taiwan Province.

According to the analysis of industry insiders, Qualcomm's appeal in Taiwan Province is not to refuse to pay the NT $23.4 billion fine, but to reduce the penalty and postpone the payment of the fine. Now, according to the Electronic Times, Qualcomm has accepted the ticket issued by Taiwan's Fair Trade Commission, and the penalty is still NT $23.4 billion. However, the Fair Trade Commission allows Qualcomm to pay the fine in installments of five years (60 installments). It is learned that Qualcomm will pay a fine of NT $390 million in the first phase at the end of January.
