23.2Gbps Burst Table Level Bandwidth! UFS 3.0 standard officially released

On January 31, the JEDEC Solid State Technology Association officially released the Universal Flash Storage v3.0 standard, where UFS corresponds to JESD220D and UFSHCI corresponds to JESD223D. UFS is what we usually call universal flash memory storage. UFS 3.0 is developed for mobile applications and computing systems that need high performance and low power consumption. It is also the first flash memory storage that introduces MIPI M-PHY HS-Gear4 standard. Its single channel bandwidth is increased to 11.6Gbps, twice the performance of HS-G3 (UFS 2.1). Considering that UFS supports dual channel bidirectional read/write, the theoretical maximum interface bandwidth is 23.2Gbps, about 2.9GB/s.

The interconnection layer design of UFS 3.0 standard adopts the specification protocol of MIPI mobile industrial processor interface. MIPI M-PHY v4.1 and the recently released MIPI UniProSM v1.8 form the interconnection layer. In addition to targeting smart phones, tablets and other electronic devices, UFS 3.0 also adds some features of the automotive market, such as operating temperature support of minus 40 ℃ - minus 105 ℃. In addition, a host control mechanism is added to improve the reliability of device data.

In addition to releasing the UFS 3.0 storage standard, JEDEC also released the UFS memory card v1.1 standard (JESD220-2A). The UFS memory card v1.1 will be fully compatible with HS-Gear1/2/3, and the theoretical maximum storage speed can reach 1.5GB/s.
