Samsung Electronics announced today that they will accelerate the progress of two new processes, 11nm LPP and 7nm LPP, through EUV lithography technology. The former is expected to be put into production as soon as 2018, while 7nm LPP needs to wait until the second half of 2018.
Samsung said that 11nm LPP (Low Power Plus) provides more choices for its customers. Compared with the previous 14nm LPP process, the 11nm LPP process has 15% performance improvement, and its chip area has also been reduced by 10%. The emergence of 11nm LPP technology gives more choices to high-end smart phones. Samsung believes that in addition to the 10nm FF process, the 11nm LPP process is of great significance for high-end smart phones. Under the EUV lithography technology, the 7nm LPP process is also on schedule.
