Just when Samsung released its flagship Galaxy Note8 in the second half of the year, Li Zaireng, former vice president of Samsung Electronics, also ushered in a fateful "Black Friday". According to Yonhap News Agency, the South Korean court has handed down the first instance verdict on the bribery case of Samsung Crown Prince Lee Jae jung.
Li Zaireng was charged with five counts, including bribery, corruption, transfer of assets overseas, concealment of criminal proceeds and perjury, of which bribery is the core of all his charges. The South Korean prosecutors accused Lee Jae jung of bribing Park Geun hye and her close confidant Choi Soon shih, amounting to 43.3 billion won, or about 260 million yuan, in order to facilitate the merger and successfully take over Samsung's management rights. The prosecutors requested a 12 year sentence. In the first instance, the Korean court held that "Lee Jae Rong did offer bribes in order to hope that President Park Geun hye's support would help him become a Samsung leader", and finally sentenced him to five years' imprisonment. The Samsung lawyer who claimed that Lee Jae Rong was "innocent" said in court that he could not accept it, and appealed immediately. The subsequent litigation results are expected to be finalized by the middle of next year. I wonder what you think of this century trial?
