HTC U11 and Google Pixel XL are the two mobile phones with the highest score on DxOMark, of which U11 is the first mobile device to break 90 points, while Samsung Galaxy S8+is the most comprehensive and powerful camera phone in most people's minds. In this comparison, the Korean version with different SoC and CMOS and the Bank of China S8+(both Samsung ISPs) are used for comparison:
The sample was shot on August 17, and all the machines were the latest firmware version (Pixel XL was still Android 7.1 at that time). Both S8+and HTC U11 are 1.4 μ M unit pixel+optical anti shake scheme, Pixel XL is the largest 1.55 flagship in service μ M unit pixel, but no optical anti shake, and the aperture is only F2.0.
There is no suspense about the photographing experience. The two S8+are better than the U11, and the Pixel XL is at the bottom: the scene judgment, focusing speed, shutter response, and film rate of the two S8+are impeccable, but the shutter response of the Bank of China is slightly slower than that of the Korean version; The multi frame synthesis of U11 will result in a slight deduction of points for short-time shooting; The HDR+of Pixel XL will also cause the camera and shutter to jam, and the film rate will be lower.
PS: The focus of all the samples below is in the middle. Except Pixel XL full HDR+, all the others are in automatic mode. If at Love to play computer games To browse the official website, you can click the picture to view the large picture, with detailed EXIF information attached.
Investigation items and scales
The core of mobile phone photographing is the photographing experience and imaging effect. The main factors that affect the experience are:
The shooting smoothness and film consistency: whether the shooting frame has problems such as delay/shadow dragging/frame dropping/full screen noise;
Speed, including focusing speed, shutter response and imaging speed;
Film forming rate, the rate of destruction by shaking hands;
The degree of automation, whether to identify the scene with large light difference and weak light, and automatically trigger HDR and night view mode;
The imaging effects mainly include:
White balance and light metering. In many scenes such as sunlight/light/weak light and extremely weak light, whether the white balance (picture color and wind direction) and brightness can be close to the naked eye;
Discriminatory power, roughly understood as clarity, should take into account the sharpness, detail and natural degree of the picture at the same time;
Tolerance, that is, the ability to show details in the light and dark at the same time. For mobile phones, this is basically equivalent to whether the HDR effect is natural and harmonious, whether there are ghosts, white balance deviation, and poor discrimination after synthesis;
The remaining assessment contents include noise control, color saturation (the closer to the naked eye, the better, but Samsung and Huawei will be able to raise it recently to please users), lens quality (including edge degradation control, anti glare, fog control, wide-angle and pillow deformation control, etc.), and many other contents.
Although everyone's requirements for the photographic experience are almost the same, for different users, the proportion of different items in the imaging part is completely different. For example, the Maoist Party, who likes to zoom in and scan, will definitely put discrimination first, and the proportion is very high; The party in the circle of friends attaches great importance to tolerance, white balance, saturation and other items, but the requirement of discrimination is not high. Therefore, the comparison will be divided according to different items, and it will be better for everyone to focus on understanding what they care about.

Summary
Dual Galaxy S8+: Although they are the same ISP, the imaging difference between the two S8+is far greater than expected. In terms of white balance, there is little difference between the two machines. Both machines have a flattering way of yellow and warm under the fluorescent lamp, but the white balance of the Korean version is slightly red. Bank of China (G9550) Light metering is slightly brighter than the Korean version (G955N), HDR trigger is more sensitive, HDR improves the brightness of dark details more and smears more heavily, but the dark details of shadow parts are lost more seriously, and the overall picture is whiter. On the goal of leaves and other complicated details, the HDR of Bank of China S8+will paint leaves like oil paintings, which is much more serious than the problem of Bank of China's early ROM (negative optimization in the later stage?).
The Korean version of HDR, in terms of dark part brightening, has a lower range, and the sharpening algorithm is more powerful. The contrast and sharpness of the first impression are higher. In terms of absolute discrimination during the day, the Korean version of S8+is stronger, while the Bank of China S8+is at the bottom of the four machines. However, it may be the difference between S5K2L2 and IMX333 in terms of high sensitivity (high ISO) and algorithm application. After the ISO exceeds 200, the situation of dual version S8+is reversed. In the scene of light, weak light and extremely weak light, the discrimination power of the Bank of China S8+drops less (the noise is relatively obvious), and the weaker the light, the greater the advantage. The extremely weak light of the Korean version S8+was smeared vigorously, which led to the loss of a lot of details, and the analytical power was not as good as that of U11, which was a bit surprising.
HTC U11: Compared with the other three machines, the white balance and photometry are not very stable. The white balance of the base is red, and the color saturation and S8+are not very different. HDR algorithm is very light, and the loss of light and dark details is the main problem of its imaging (easy to die in black or white), but the contrast of the image is higher. The absolute discrimination force in the daytime is sandwiched between the Bank of China and the Korean version S8+. After the light becomes worse, the performance is slightly weaker than that of the Korean version S8+. The noise under extremely weak light is generally controlled, and the noise in large areas of pure color is even worse than that of Pixel.
Pixel XL: The photometry is relatively accurate, but the overall white balance is not very accurate like U11. Pixel XL is at the extremes of daytime and extremely weak light. Its analytical power, light and dark details, and tolerance (HDR) are very strong. The main problem is that it covers most of the lighting and weak light scenes, and its performance is weaker than the other three top flagship. In addition, under extremely weak light, the HDR+white balance is obviously green, and there will be very special grid noise at the light source.
