Reuters reported that on July 24, E S. Jung said that the company plans to increase its chip OEM business to 25% of the global market share in the next five years, becoming the world's second largest new product OEM manufacturer.
According to IHS data, in the global chip foundry market in 2016, TSMC's market share reached 50.6%, ranking first, followed by Grofond (9.6%), Tailian (8.1%), and Samsung (7.9%), ranking fourth. From the current situation, Samsung split its chip OEM business into an independent operation department in May this year, and made it clear that this would be the key business of Samsung. In fact, in terms of mobile chip business, Samsung has always maintained a leading edge. Samsung and TSMC were the first chip manufacturers to start mass production of 10nm processes. However, due to the impact of production capacity, yield rate and other factors, Samsung's chip OEM business cannot achieve the scale of TSMC.
