Pixel wall! LG V20、 Comparison of Samsung S7, Note5 and iPhone 7 photos

"High pixels can make a clear picture" is the most commonly used word in general consumer evaluation. However, in the past year or two, the importance of unit pixel size has been rapidly popularized. Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi and other manufacturers have all regressed to 12 million pixels. Under the same conditions, larger unit pixel size can result in higher tolerance and dim light performance.

But on the top flagship, is "the number of pixels" or "the size of unit pixel" more important? For this reason, we used the most popular Galaxy S7 edge and iPhone 7 Plus among the 12 megapixel models, and the old flagship Galaxy Note 5 with the same 16 megapixel model to compare with the current "Shu Mao Wang" LG V20.

Samsung and Apple have good photo taking experience, so I won't repeat it here. The LG V20 is a key criticism. Even though it finally uses CMOS that supports phase focusing, focusing is still a bellows. The dim light camera is stuck, the focus is slow, and the imaging output is slow, so its photography experience is not as good as many thousand yuan cameras. In addition, it is difficult to focus the weak light, which results in a greater probability of weak light focusing on the virtual focus than other parts. Only one or two of the five or six consecutive shots can be perfectly focused, and negative scores can be experienced.

Because the daytime performance cannot be separated from the distance, and the discrimination is directly related to the number of pixels and the size of wide-angle, the comparison value is not great, so this paper mainly compares the performance of light and weak light scenes.

Lens and focal length

Among the four machines, except the S7 edge, which is a large wide-angle lens with an equivalent focal length of 26mm, the others are all about 28mm equivalent focal length. Note 5 is a 16:9 picture with a larger horizontal field of vision, but a smaller vertical field of vision.

In the same case, in the sample of the high pixel model, the scene will have more pixels and better discrimination. After year-on-year amplification, the same object in the 16 million pixel Note5 and LG V20 proofs is larger than that in the S7 edge and iPhone, which brings natural advantages to the ultimate discrimination of the former two. However, for the iPhone 7 Plus with a focal length slightly greater than 28mm, the object in the proof is a bit larger than the S7 edge. The difference in wide-angle size seems small, but its influence on discrimination often exceeds the difference caused by the difference in the number of pixels.

The lens quality is mainly compared with anti glare and edge degradation, and the control of the international flagship over the latter is no longer a problem. and When facing a strong light source, the smaller the halo range around the light source, the smaller the influence on the brightness of the surrounding scenery, The higher the quality of the lens (The reflection and refraction of strong light in the lens will cause the surrounding scenery to turn white, thus reducing the contrast of the picture). Samsung's anti glare ability has not been very good. The performance of Note 5 is close to that of LG V20, which is behind the iPhone 7 Plus but better than the S7 edge.

PS: All machines are hand-held and automatic, and the focus of the sample is in the middle. Love to play computer games Click the picture on the PC version official website (public account search: Iookie) to view the large picture directly. The samples below are arranged from strong to weak light:

Central amplification of extremely weak light scene

  • White balance and metering: For the two Samsung models, except for the S7 edge, which will show a sharp brightness in extremely weak light, the white balance and metering of most of their scenes are very close, and the metering is very close to what the naked eye can see, but the light and weak light white balance are both relatively warm and red. Note 5 also has the problem of insufficient exposure due to small unit pixel size under extreme low light. The iPhone is a white balance faithful to the original system, but there will be a bias of underexposure in weak light. The metering accuracy of LG V20 is slightly poor, and it is almost always different from the other three machines. The metering tends to be brighter under weak light.

  • Noise control: S7 edge and iPhone 7 Plus have better noise control in most scenes, but iPhone is slightly weaker in extremely weak light; Second, LG V20, very small granular noise exists even in the daytime, but black technology is that LG can suppress noise so small even in extremely weak light; Note 5, though stable, has more background noise. In the face of products in the new era, Note 5 has become quite old and honest.

  • Detail/discrimination: It is expected that the 16 megapixel Note5 and LG V20 will win in the lighting scene; In the weak light scene, the differentiation between the S7 edge and the iPhone can't even beat Note5, which is unexpected for many people; The Note 5 was technically knocked down by the large pixel solution only in extremely weak light after a generation and a half. Among them, LG once again demonstrated its advantages in discrimination Rubbing the S7 edge and iPhone on the ground is just a bug. Unfortunately, the photo taking experience is really bad for the imaging effect.

The author is a staunch fan of the Maoist Party. After all, there is not much difference between white balance and light measurement in the flagship. Noise control can be saved in the later stage. Only the details of the picture are lost when they are not captured at the moment of taking a picture, so the author supports the original 16 million pixel optical anti shake scheme.

Finally, the Note 5 and LG V20 are attached. In low light, they are compared with the iPhone 7 Plus and Huawei Mate 9 Pro with double zoom:

Appendix: Low light contrast of telephoto lens

Here we use the iPhone 7 Plus and Huawei Mate 9 Pro's 2x zoom for comparison. Because the light is weak, the 2x zoom of the iPhone 7 Plus still calls the main camera, while the 2x zoom of the Huawei Mate 9 Pro calls the 20 million pixel black and white sensor. Using the color data of the main camera, the camera has no optical anti shake.
