Qualcomm, Ericsson, Netgear and Telstra, an Australian operator, jointly announced that the world's first commercial gigabit LTE network and related equipment were officially launched in Australia, marking an important step towards 5G networks in the future.
The theoretical download speed of the test network can reach 1Gbps, which translates back to our common unit of 125MB/s, while the upload speed reaches 150Mbps, or 18.75MB/s, twice the previous LTE network. The download speed of the LTE gigabit network is realized by the latest LTE-A technologies such as 4x4 MIMO, three carrier aggregation and 256QAM. The ultra-high speed 150Mbps upload benefits from the new technologies such as 64QAM and dual carrier aggregation. Telstra will provide LTE gigabit network for user experience in CBD business districts of some major cities in Australia, and then gradually build and roll out. Netgear also provides the router "Nighthawk M1", which is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon X16 LTE baseband and supports four channel reception differentiation.
