Among many manufacturers, Nubia pays special attention to mobile phone photography. Even though its products are different in processor, memory and other aspects, the CMOS used in the camera will always remain at the leading level. So after Z11, we saw the machine of Snapdragon 625 with IMX318 - Z11 miniS. Different from other manufacturers' arrangement of IMX318 in the flagship model, Nubia put it down to the mid end product line.
Design with brand characteristics
The previous white packaging is used for the outer packaging. The front is only the logo of Nubia, and the back is the details of the model.
The accessories are also the same as the old ones - instruction manual+charger+data cable, and the "cowboy" sticker has not been missed. It should be noted that the power of the accessory charger is 5V/2A, which does not support fast charging.
The front face of the Z11 miniS is not very different from that of the Z11 mini. The same 2.5D glass with the classic red "dot" design can identify this machine at a glance. However, it is quite difficult to identify this Z11 miniS only through the front face.
The material on the back has been replaced by the popular metal, which is also in line with the "trend" of using dome shaped U-shaped antenna. However, the author believes that the Z11 mini is still better in design and appearance.
The Z11 miniS camera also retains a ring of red metal ring decoration, which is highly recognizable, but this small design does not match the color of the body (the black gold version may be better), and Nubia chooses the former in terms of brand characteristics and beauty.
The layout of the buttons on the side is no different from that of the Z11 mini. They are all left card slots, right volume keys and power keys.
There is no change in the interface between the top and bottom. There is a 3.5mm headphone hole on the top, and a USB Type-C interface, speaker and earphone on the bottom. Nubia Z11 miniS has no surprises in appearance. It has done a lot of work in terms of workmanship. The seams between different materials, the feel of keys and the sandblasting of metal are worth mentioning, which gives a very solid feeling.
Attractive screen
The screen of Z11 miniS has slightly increased to 5.2 inches, with a resolution of 1080P. Officially, the contrast of this screen is 1500:1, and the maximum brightness is 450 nits. The software was used for testing. The actual contrast was 1521:1, and the maximum brightness was about 475 nits. Nubia did not boast about propaganda. Covering 100% of the sRGB color gamut, the quality of the Z11 miniS screen is very good.
The default color temperature of the screen is 8650K, which conforms to the preference of domestic users for cold screen. The 104 color accuracy test shows that the average DeltaE is 3.2, and the maximum DeltaE is 5.7. This color accuracy performance can only be said to be average.
Performance and system
The important upgrade of Z11 miniS compared with the previous generation is to replace the SoC with the latest Snapdragon 625. Although it is also an 8-core A53 architecture like Snapdragon 617, the production process has been improved to 14nm, and the main frequency has also been increased to 2.0GHz. With 4GB of running memory, we should not worry about daily use. In the run point test, we can see that compared with the Z11 mini's Snapdragon 617, it is still a big improvement, but it is slightly weak in large-scale games or heavy tasks. If you can switch to Snapdragon 650/652, it would be better.
The GPU test shows that the gap between Snapdragon 625 and 652 is quite large. Large games and some apps with high requirements for GPU are more affected. The system is Nubia UI 4.0 based on Android 6.0.1. There is no major change on the whole. It is almost the same as the one on Z11. It also adds functions such as edge gestures and sense of agent. Currently, popular applications in domestic ROMs are not absent. The left side of the main screen still retains the quick start option of the camera family, and Nubia is very persistent in this regard.
Performance of IMX318
For Nubia, which attaches great importance to taking photos, the Z11 miniS is equipped with the latest IMX318, which works with the NeoVision 6 customized version. Do you know what surprises we will get this time? In terms of photographing experience, the Z11 miniS is similar to other models in Nubia, with good focusing and imaging speed and high film rate. The overall experience is satisfactory. This time, we found the hammer M1L, which is also IMX318, for comparison. But the M1L processor is Snapdragon 820, and the Z11 miniS is just Snapdragon 625. There are large differences between the ISP and the algorithm. We can see how Nubia adjusts the Z11 miniS.
In this group of samples, Z11 miniS has a better reduction of slightly faded walls, sharp is more obvious, and M1L is more "flesh". The white balance of Z11 miniS is closer to the real situation. The M1L is warmer overall, and the two are closer in discrimination. However, the size of the M1L sample is more than 10MB, almost twice the size of the Z11 miniS sample. There are also some differences in resolution between the two. The M1L sample is 5480x4110, and the Z11 miniS sample is 5488x4112.
In other samples, the white balance of Z11 miniS is relatively more accurate, while M1L is bluish and has higher color saturation. M1L is slightly better in details, but Z11 miniS is better in picture purity.
However, the white balance of Z11 miniS can sometimes be quite surprising, such as the serious drift in the above figure. The M1L samples are basically consistent with the naked eye. The Z11 miniS is seriously blue, and the details are not as good as the M1L samples. Compared with the performance of the above groups of samples, it is like changing a machine.
In this group of proofs, the two are quite similar in other aspects except for some differences in exposure. This group of proofs is also a rare time for Z11 miniS to slightly outperform M1L in discrimination.
In other daytime samples, Z11 miniS and hammer M1L have little difference. Z11 miniS has better white balance and M1L has better performance in details.
At night, there is a big difference between the two. In this group of samples, Z11 miniS is underexposed, dark details cannot be restored, M1L noise control is not good, and the picture purity is poor. The appearance of Z11 miniS is better, but the details and white balance are not satisfactory.
In this group of samples, the Z11 miniS white balance drift and insufficient exposure defects have been "perfectly" preserved, while the hammer M1L is still poor in noise control. Although the details are good, the appearance is not very good.
In this group of samples, Z11 miniS is better than M1L in restoring the green of the "porridge" on the signboard. In addition, the details of the light and dark parts and the anti glare performance of the two are quite similar.
This group of samples Z11 miniS is obviously better than M1L. Although there is almost no difference in white balance, discrimination and other aspects, M1L's poor noise control makes the samples feel far away from Z11 miniS.

In extreme low light, Z11 miniS reluctantly captured the outline of the scene by pulling up the ISO, but the proof is as useless as the M1L. It can be said that Z11 miniS is quite unstable in low light environment. It is estimated that it can not achieve the desired effect by relying on automatic mode shooting. It is recommended to use more professional modes for shooting at night.
In general, the photos of Z11 miniS are satisfactory except for the occasional white balance drift when the light is sufficient, but the extremely unstable performance in weak light makes people dare not use it confidently, and can only be compensated by professional mode. Excellent endurance
The Z11 miniS is equipped with a 3000mAh battery, which is slightly larger than the 2800mAh of the Z11 mini Love to play computer games In the three hour endurance test, 79% of the power was left. It can be seen that in the comparison model, the difference between the first place Xiaomi 5s Plus and the S7 edge (8890) and Z11 Max is only 3%, and only 1%. This outstanding performance is undoubtedly attributed to the Snapdragon 625. After all, the Z11 miniS still uses LCD screen, and the S7 edge and Z11 Max are AMOLED materials famous for power saving.
Nubia has not always been very active in scheduling, making the Snapdragon 625 not fully open when working, so the heat control of the whole body is quite good. It just feels warm, not hot. As for the more negative scheduling, don't expect a smooth game experience in large games.

The Z11 miniS in Nubia was mainly upgraded on the SoC and camera. The more advanced production process Snapdragon 625 and the latest IMX318 replaced the metal body material to keep the Z11 miniS up to date.
