Recently, Shenzhen Nader Optics Co., Ltd., which focuses on information display and visual imaging optics, launched a GOOVIS mobile 3D cinema glasses G1 (hereinafter referred to as GOOVIS-G1). After the successful crowdfunding in JD, the engineering machine has now arrived in our evaluation room. Shenzhen Nader Optics Co., Ltd. is committed to the core component of AR/VR smart glasses - near eye display optics and system solutions. More than a year after its establishment, it has obtained more than 40 related patents, and has solid technical accumulation and innovation in micro display chips and devices, near eye imaging optics, ultra precision structure design and assembly, image processing and recognition algorithms, driving systems, etc.
Appearance and design
The storage box of GOOVIS-G1 can fold GOOVIS-G1 well. Later, after inserting earplugs or earphones, you can take it with you to solve the entertainment time of the day.
After opening the zipper, we can see the real GOOVIS-G1, in addition to the remote control and head band fixed on the back of the head. The author has calculated the time to pack it back to the storage box after using it for a period of time, about a few minutes.
It is worth mentioning that the remote controller can not only act as a handle and remote control switch, but also has a built-in mobile power supply that provides power for the entire GOOVIS-G1 equipment. The headband can be easily removed from the helmet. The feedback experience of the physical keys of the remote control is good. The weight in the hand is moderate and the grip is good. Because this remote control is often used in the process of use, the user experience in hand is more important.
In addition to the white body version, it is reported that GOOVIS-G1 has a black version, which is also quite stylish. The overall weight of the fuselage (helmet+headband) is not too heavy, and the main weight of the product is less than 200g. The overall sense of immersion is quite good. Since there is no light leakage, after wearing the GOOVIS-G1 and earphones, it seems to be isolated from the world. The forehead module corresponding to the sentence ENJOY YOUR VISION can adjust different angles with moderate damping, and can be pressed down when it is stored in the storage box. You can turn the video upside down when you watch it. Since the forehead and the headband mentioned below can be flexibly adjusted, the wearing comfort of GOOVIS-G1 is slightly better than that of the VR all-in-one machine previously experienced.
The left and right sides of GOOVIS-G1 are respectively connected to headphones and HDMI cables, and the right HDMI cable cannot be removed. The display screen uses two Sony OLEDs, each with a resolution of 1920 * 1080, which is different from the VR all-in-one machine that the author has experienced before. Even if the GOOVIS-G1 is removed, the video being played will continue to play without automatically pausing. Therefore, readers should pay attention to that when leaving the seat for a long time, remember to manually let the glasses sleep or close, otherwise the power will be wasted.
The GOOVIS-G1 remote controller can not only act as a power supply, but also control the daily operation of GOOVIS-G1. It is designed with physical keys. However, after a few days of use, the print on the solid keys has faded, which may be the cause of the engineering machine. The handle of the remote control is OK, the weight is moderate, and you won't feel too tired after holding it for a long time to select videos. Since the built-in power supply is too hot to run, the pleasant thing is that it is only warm under high load, not just hot. Above the front of the fuselage is the direction key, and some scenes can replace the side volume key. The middle area of the direction ring is the confirmation key. The three physical keys are the return key, the home key and the menu key, which is indeed the design thinking of the Android system.
The side of the fuselage is relatively simple. There are charging indicators and memory card expansion card slots on one side, and volume keys and power keys on the other side.
The bottom of the fuselage is an HDMI interface, which is used to connect the GOOVIS-G1 helmet, and the top is a USB interface and a micro USB interface, which are covered with a plastic protective sleeve.
Optical image display, vision and wearing experience
The VR all-in-one machine that I have contacted before can wear glasses at the same time, but there is still room for improvement in comfort. While GOOVIS-G1 introduces diopter and pupillary distance adjustment, taking off glasses and wearing this device can solve the needs of users with different myopia degrees of left and right eyes, as well as users with large or small pupillary distance. And the adjustment mode is very simple. As shown in the above figure, rotate the two buttons to adjust the myopia degree of the left and right eyes respectively, and slide left and right to adjust the pupillary distance. On the left side of the bottom control panel is the 2D/3D mode switch button, and on the right side is the brightness adjustment.
It is mentioned that the biggest difference between GOOVIS-G1 and VR all-in-one machine experienced before is distortion. VR glasses have some distortion. The biggest experience GOOVIS-G1 gave me is that the image can approximate the official optical distortion of less than 1.5%. At the same time, optical glass plastic multi lens combination design is adopted, even though the image edge display effect is still sharp. The VR all-in-one machine experienced before relies on the sensor to identify the head turning and movement, but there is often a position deviation problem, so you need to manually click the image adjustment panel to reset the window. What if the angle of view exceeds 180 °? The head twists and turns. If the action range is too large, it needs to be manually adjusted and reset. It seems that the gain is not worth the loss.
According to the official data, GOOVIS-G1 has a 53 ° field of view, equivalent to a giant screen 800 inches away from 20 meters, and has a sense of telepresence in the middle of row 8 of IMAX Cinema. The actual user experience is that there is less need to rotate the head and eyeball. It is suggested that readers can enjoy the experience of cinema by lying on the sofa. This is a visual enjoyment that cannot be achieved by watching movies on PC, laptop and TV.
The diopter adjustment is very comfortable and simple, as described above, the left and right eyes are controlled independently. According to the official introduction, it supports 300 ° hyperopia - 800 ° myopia vision adjustment.
GOOVIS-G1 touches the forehead, eye contour and back of the head, all of which are soft sponge design, without forming a certain pressure on the forehead and back of the head, so it is still comfortable to wear it for a long time. The overall weight of the fuselage is OK. Wearing it for a long time will not cause neck pressure. After verification on the official website, the actual weight of the GOOVIS-G1 main body is less than 200g.
The connection between the headband and the helmet is very flexible. As shown in the above figure, just buckle the two straps of the headband into the corresponding position of the helmet. The innovative integrated body and bionic shape design perfectly fit the face. On the other hand, the original knob type contraction adjustment headband can make the face and nose no longer stressed, and it can be worn comfortably for a long time without leaving traces. GOOVIS-G1 seems to be more comfortable than the glasses I wear now, at least not because of the aging of the nose pad and the deformation of the eyeglass frame, which lead to the myopia glasses often sliding down from the bridge of the nose. That picture is like an old man in his seventies and eighties. After GOOVIS-G1 is fixed, it will not slide or shift due to walking and head turning.
The head band supports adjusting the tightness. As shown in the figure above, pressing the button in the middle area will pop up the handle and let us rotate. The tightness of the head band can be adjusted by rotating clockwise and counterclockwise. After adjustment, press down the handle to lock the relative position of the current helmet and headband. Different from ordinary VR glasses, you need to answer the phone when you suddenly call. You don't need to take off the main part of GOOVIS-G1 completely to see who is calling you. Just gently move the front part of GOOVIS-G1 forward from the head, and then push it up a certain distance to fix it on the forehead again. Then you can easily answer the phone.
Hardware parameters and performance are hot
JDI (a joint venture of Sony, Toshiba and Hitachi), LG and Sharp are well-known in the LCD field of mobile phones, and Samsung is naturally the leader in OLED field. However, apart from smart phones, LG's OLED screens are also well-known in other fields, such as LCD TVs and desktop displays. As for Sony, many people may not know that its HMZ series displays were once the industry benchmark of head mounted displays. With the rise of VR devices in the past two years, Sony has gradually allocated resources of head mounted displays to the development of VR devices.
Although Sony has temporarily abandoned the market for head mounted displays, it is a good thing for its friends because, like IMX series image sensors, Sony has officially opened the sales of micro OLED display panels. This move will enable more manufacturers at home and abroad who are interested in developing head mounted displays and mobile 3D cinema equipment to obtain better resources. With the development of science and technology, today's Sony Micro OLED display panel has been able to improve the resolution to 1080P, further reducing the graininess when viewing images with a single eye.
Unlike VR devices, GOOVIS-G1 does not need to use a relatively high power consumption and high heat performance processor such as Snapdragon 820 or Exynos 8890 because it does not need to run large games. It can choose a cooler and more energy-saving processor architecture when choosing SoC solutions. For the BOX remote controller, the 8-core Cortex-A7 architecture processor with the highest main frequency of 2GHz is naturally a better choice. After all, at the beginning of use, you often need to hold the BOX remote control in your hand. Naturally, the BOX remote control integrated with the power supply and SoC chipset needs to consider the heat dissipation, power consumption and performance balance carefully. If the Snapdragon 820 or Exynos 8890 is used hard, let alone whether consumers can bear the heat, the battery will also have some potential safety hazards under long-term high-temperature operation.
2GB RAM and 16GB ROM, support dual band Wi Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, equipped with HDMI cable, support USB and TF card expansion, support a variety of video and audio formats. The most important thing is that for the GOOVIS-G1 of mobile 3D cinema, the 5900mAh battery is far more practical than the flagship processor.
System resource quality and human-computer interaction
The main interface of the system is divided into five parts: online video, local video, system settings, My App, and App Store. The overall interaction logic of GOOVIS-G1 is very simple, and small white users can quickly start in a short time. The system has a high degree of fluency. There is no animation special effect that takes up a lot of resources. The UI design is simple and generous.
In the local video menu, GOOVIS-G1 provides 8 test films, including rmvb, MP4, mkv, and ts formats. It can be seen that this SoC platform video decoding has high compatibility, which is consistent with the official parameter table. Preset movies are divided into two types: single screen display and dual screen display. Both types of movies support one key switch to 3D mode by pressing the body entity button described above. We can also let GOOVIS-G1 play videos of these removable storage media by inserting TF card and USB flash disk.
Since the system is developed based on Android, screen capture can be achieved by simultaneously pressing the "-" button and the power button of the body volume. However, probably due to the video copyright protection, GOOVIS-G1 will be a bit strange when capturing images during video playback. Even if the screen capture is successfully displayed, only the dark background can be seen, whether online or local, as shown in the above figure.
The author has experienced that several smart devices with TV box function do not do well in system resources. Without the cooperation of high-quality content providers, the best hardware is just scrap. GOOVIS-G1 has done quite well in this respect. First, online video will provide users with a variety of definitions to choose from, whether it is MV, concert, TV series, movies and other resources.
Secondly, there are rich TV series and movie resources. Many TVB TV series that are not available in many TV boxes are included in GOOVIS-G1, and many of them have Cantonese versions. Film resources include the latest blockbusters and popular cinemas in many countries, as well as classic reviews and other types. Most of the resources of TV dramas are free, and a small number of new and popular movies need to open a VIP account. For the needs of the author, most TV dramas and movies have been available.
In addition, there are many MV and concert videos, most of which are original ones, and there will be no KTV like MV that is completely unrelated to songs. After verification, it is found that the above content provider is Tencent Video, but as far as the author knows, there are not so many free videos and MVs offered when browsing Tencent video resources on mobile phones. It is estimated that GOOVIS-G1 has purchased the member rights of Tencent Video with certain permissions for each consumer, except for VIP resources, of course.
GOOVIS-G1 supports 9 grid fast search. There is no problem with movies and TV dramas, but if you want to search a song or a singer's MV resources, it is more embarrassing. Because you can't find MV resources from the search results. At the same time, you can only find the variety shows that the singer participated in by entering the name of the singer, not the music album.
GOOVIS-G1 has a built-in file manager and supports TF and USB extensions, so it is very convenient for the system to transfer data interactively. It is much easier to use than other smart devices that have experienced before. The experience of GOOVIS-G1 data transmission is like smart phones and tablets, which is convenient and fast.
Of course, because of the engineering machine, when the file manager switches to display video or music resources separately, it still displays all resources without filtering. I believe this is just a bug.
Another method can manage the resources in GOOVIS-G1. Let's take the screenshot as an example. The author wants to see whether the previous screenshot has been successfully captured. When we use the built-in file manager of the system to view screenshots, they cannot be displayed in the form of thumbnails. In other words, they can only be opened one image at a time. Who can remember which image is which image after a long time. GOOVIS-G1 has a built-in application store, and another file manager is pre installed for us, as shown in the above figure. It is very convenient to browse the pictures in the system in the form of thumbnails.
We can also connect the BOX remote control of GOOVIS-G1 to the PC through the USB data cable to export data. The experience is really as convenient as smart phones and tablets. As shown in the figure above, photos, screenshots, music, videos, applications and other resources can be transferred back and forth between PC and BOX remote control in a few easy steps.
GOOVIS-G1 has a built-in app store with complete functions. In addition, it also integrates many other modules, including self start management, deep acceleration, and TV guardian, which are functions that obsessive compulsive users often beg for. The TV reservation function has undoubtedly solved a major pain point for this type of product. In addition to the system's own Tencent AV resources, users can also download other media AV player clients by themselves. It is worth mentioning that there is also a dedicated handle application, which can greatly enhance the entertainment experience of GOOVIS.
The settings of the app store system are very simple and to the point, and the interaction logic is very straightforward. Users can see how to set it at a glance, and there will be no anti human secondary directory design. From the screenshot above, we can see that GOOVIS-G1 has integrated an application called Sofa Steward into the system, which can log in to the member account to obtain relevant cloud services, and also supports root. However, Xiaobai users do not recommend any trouble. This article is able to complete all user needs without root.
Applications installed in the app store will appear in my app, and GOOVIS settings are the system settings mentioned above. Function test is a shortcut for engineering mode. The video player jumps to the local video interface, the cloud audio-visual aurora jumps to the online video interface, and the sofa butler jumps to the application store. It is no exaggeration to say that GOOVIS-G1's system resource quality and human-computer interaction experience are among the smart products (except smart phones and tablets) that I have recently evaluated, and none of them has the best user experience.
Endurance and fast charging
The 8 cores of GOOVIS-G1 only use the Cortex-A7 architecture, and the daily use only focuses on watching videos. It can save more power than VR glasses without running large games. In addition, GOOVIS-G1 is equipped with a 5900mAh battery, so the final endurance performance is commendable. However, it may be because of the engineering machine, the last two grids consume more electricity (five grids in total). It took 50 minutes to consume the first grid, 1 hour and 52 minutes to consume the second grid, and 1 hour and 14 minutes to consume the third grid.
Since the engineering machine is not equipped with a fast charger and data cable, the author uses the 5V/2A fast charger of a smart phone to charge GOOVIS-G1, and completely consumes all the power of GOOVIS-G1 to the automatic shutdown state. The power is fully charged in less than 2 hours.

GOOVIS-G1 is different from the VR all-in-one machine that the author has evaluated before. Because the demand for playing games is not considered, it is more flexible in design. At the same time, the performance can also be lowered slightly, which naturally brings about a longer endurance and lower calorific value. In addition, the power supply is transferred from the glasses end to the remote controller to further solve the heat dissipation problem, and at the same time, the operation can be better separated. When charging, it is unnecessary to take out the glasses, just charge the remote control (integrated with the power supply) separately. Finally, different from the VR all-in-one machine experienced before, GOOVIS-G1 changes the human-computer interaction mode from touching the local position of VR glasses to a controller with physical keys, which is more sensitive and easier to operate. In the same sentence, you can also remove the remote control (integrated power supply) when you feel hot, and put it in a cool place for heat dissipation. The attached HDMI cable is of moderate length.
GOOVIS-G1 is comfortable to wear. It supports the adjustment of diopter and pupillary distance, which is very user-friendly. It supports USB and TF expansion as well as system screenshots. It is considered comprehensively. On the whole, GOOVIS-G1 is functional, human-computer interaction is not stuck and logical, the quality of system resources is excellent, and the endurance performance is also good. The heating is within the acceptable range, mainly because the remote control heating is slightly larger, and the eyeglasses are basically free of obvious heating problems.
