In the new generation of supercomputer Post-K, Fujitsu, which is leading the processor design, will for the first time use ARM architecture to develop the ultra efficient computing (HPC) processor for supercomputers. The 7nm FinFET process will be adopted in the manufacturing process. This time, TSMC will be responsible for the OEM production of the processor. The processor is expected to enter the mass production and shipment stage from 2020 to 2021.

With the acquisition of ARM by Softbank, ARM is slowly closing the gap with Japanese IDM manufacturers. Fujitsu of Japan, which has invested in the development of HPC chips for many years, will change the CPU of the next-generation supercomputer Post-K, which was originally used by SPARC architecture, to ARM architecture, which also allows ARM to quickly seize the HPC chip market.

It is known that K Computer, the last generation supercomputer developed by Riken and Fujitsu, was the fastest supercomputer in the world in 2011, but it has been surpassed by Chinese supercomputers in recent years. In the ranking of global supercomputers published in June this year, China's Sunway Taihu Light won the first place, with a computing speed of 93000 megabytes per second, China's Tianhe 2 ranked second, the United States' supercomputers ranked third and fourth, and Japan's supercomputers ranked fifth.

On the other hand, ARM has gained momentum in recent years, not only occupying a large number of markets in the field of professional chips, but also hopes to develop processors comparable to Intel X86 architecture by 2020 through cooperation with Qualcomm, MediaTek and other chip manufacturers.
