In good faith? Samsung Galaxy On5/On7 Pro Hands on Evaluation
In good faith? Samsung Galaxy On5/On7 Pro Hands on Evaluation

Galaxy On5 Pro and On7 Pro are Samsung's latest low-cost Android phones, which are exclusively for the Indian market. These two phones are similar to the On5 and On7 released last year, but this time their memory has been expanded to 2GB, and the storage space has also been increased to 16GB. The On5 Pro is a small phone with a 5-inch 720P screen, an Exynos 3 Quad quad core processor, an 8 megapixel main camera and a 5 megapixel front camera. The battery is 2600mAh, which is quite large. On7 Pro is a slightly more upscale mobile phone with a 5.5 inch screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, a 13 megapixel main camera, and a 3000 mAh battery capacity.

As the cheap mobile phone market is getting hotter and hotter, Samsung needs to prove itself with its flagship products. The recently released Galaxy J2 (2016 version) has not impressed us much, so now let's see if On5 Pro and On7 Pro can bring about any changes.

Design

The industrial design of Galaxy On5 Pro and On7 Pro is no different from that of other Samsung mobile phones. Black and gold are available. No matter what you choose, the front and rear panels will be the same color.

(On5 Pro appearance)

There are earphones, front cameras and distance sensors on the top of the front panel, and three buttons on the bottom, namely, the multi task key, the Home key and the return key. Only the Home key is a physical key, and the other two are touch keys. And those two keys have no backlight. It may be a bit troublesome to press them at night.
The screen frame is made of aluminum alloy, but there is a layer of coating on it, which makes it feel smooth and looks like a transparent film attached to it.

There are power button and volume button on the right side of the fuselage, and headset interface and mirco USB interface are on the bottom of the fuselage. The back shell of the body looks like leather, but once you touch it, you will know it is plastic. But it is a low-cost mobile phone after all, so you can't be too strict with it. Remove the back cover. It is a replaceable battery, dual SIM cards and SD card slot.

(On7 Pro appearance)

Thanks to the metal frame, these two phones feel much more comfortable than the Galaxy J2! And On5 Pro is cheaper than J2.

screen

Galaxy On5 Pro and On7 Pro use 5-inch and 5.5-inch screens respectively. Both screens are 720P, and the screen material is IPS LCD. The word "enough" can be used to describe these two screens. There is no problem to watch the two screens in the indoor environment, but when you go outdoors, you will feel light dead. The appearance of the two screens is particularly bright and bright, which seems to imitate the appearance of AMOLED, especially the On5 Pro screen, which is a bit too full of color. The color performance is average and the look of the two screens is not as good as the Galaxy J5 and J7 released this year.

One thing we can't accept is that Samsung cut materials in order to reduce costs, and neither screen has been added with oil drainage! Especially when outdoors, the screen always looks dirty, which makes it impossible to read information clearly. Also, neither phone has a light sensor! Finally, the touch screen only supports two fingers at most. If you touch the screen with three fingers, you can hardly touch it. In fact, these things will not make Samsung bleed, but they can give users a better use experience. Sometimes you will wonder if their brains are burned out~

Software

Galaxy On5 Pro and On7 Pro are shipped with Android 6.0.1 marshmallow system. Of course, there is also Samsung's exclusive UI. However, Samsung has reduced many bloated things on the system. After all, these two phones have limited memory.

The Microsoft software is not preinstalled on On5 Pro. Unfortunately, there are on On7 Pro, which means that Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive and Skype will always be with you and cannot be deleted. Although the storage space of both mobile phones is 16GB, there is about 10GB left after the On5 Pro is turned on, while there is only about 8.6GB left after the On7 Pro is installed with too much software.

By the way, there is an "S Bike Mode Bicycle Mode", which is suitable for you to ride a bike. When you open this mode, except for some important calls (set by yourself), other incoming calls will be filtered out and not displayed (or set up intelligent automatic reply), so that you can focus on riding and be safer.

performance

In terms of data connection, these two phones have WiFi 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS,4G LTE, Dual cards and dual standby, but VoLTE (high-quality voice call/Internet access while calling) is not supported. In addition, these two computers do not have built-in magnetometers and accelerators, so they can not give you directions when using maps, and all kinds of VR or AR game software can not play.

In terms of hardware, the Galaxy On5 Pro is equipped with Samsung's Exynos 3 Quad quad core Cortex-A7, the main frequency is 1.3GHz, and the GPU is Mail-T720.

(On5 Pro detailed parameters)

The Galaxy On7 Pro is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad core Cortex-A53, with the main frequency of 1.2GHz and the GPU of Adreno 306. Both phones have 2GB Memory and 16GB storage space.

(On7 Pro detailed parameters)

We didn't expect such a dreary processor and small memory to bring us any surprises, and the result is true. Although their GPUs are different, their performance in image performance test is almost the same. In all tests, On7 Pro's Snapdragon 410 is obviously more dominant (except Anthare).

In daily use, the two machines are not fast or smooth, but they are enough. As long as you don't run too many apps at the same time, 2GB of memory can also meet your basic multitasking. In terms of games, don't expect too much. Large games can only be run with low special effects/low resolution.

camera

Galaxy On5 Pro and On7 Pro are equipped with 8 megapixel and 13 megapixel main cameras respectively.

The only existing meaning of the camera on On5 Pro is meaningless. The image quality is poor, the details are lost seriously, the tolerance is weak, and there are many noise points.

(On5 Pro sample)

On the other hand, On7 Pro has performed well, even exceeding our expectations. On5 Pro has exploded in all aspects. As a low-cost mobile phone, it is very sincere.

(On7 Pro sample)

Both phones can record 1080P video, and the recording effect is relatively smooth. But I don't know why. On On5 Pro, even if we set it to 1080P, the recording is still 720P, which may be a bug in the system.

summary

Galaxy On5 Pro and On7 Pro are Samsung's sincere products. Both phones can meet the daily use of most users. It can be seen from the situation since Galaxy J2 was launched that the competition in the whole cheap mobile phone market is very fierce, and there are so many mobile phone manufacturers, so it is very important to produce a beautiful and easy-to-use product. Now manufacturers will make great efforts to seize the market at this price. No doubt Samsung is also accelerating its pace, The Galaxy On5 Pro sells for $137 (about 910 yuan), and the On7 Pro sells for $167 (about 1100 yuan). At this price point, the red rice Note 3 indicates that the performance is more powerful. Therefore, even though the On5 Pro and On7 Pro are two fairly good phones, if you look at the whole low-cost market, I think they may not be your first choice.
