Asustek officially released Zenfone Pegasus 3 at Sheraton Huzhou Hotel (Moon Hotel). This machine, which is specially customized for the Chinese market, is intended to enter the hot 1000 yuan machine market. So what is the killer of "sincere work" in Asustek's view that can defeat the enemy in one move?
Appearance and workmanship

Now the popular 2.5D glass+metal body design makes it easy to change the front and rear ASUS logo to another brand. The only thing worth complaining about is the large black edge of the screen. In terms of workmanship, it is at an excellent level compared with other brands' 1000 yuan machines.
Screen quality
The 5.2 inch screen of Pegasus 3 has a resolution of 1280x720, the maximum brightness is 562 nits, and the minimum brightness is less than 1 nit. The default color temperature is 7173K. As a reference, the maximum brightness of Hongmi 3 screen with similar parameters is 470 nits, color temperature is 8100K, and Meilan 3 screen is 340 nits, 7500K.
In terms of color gamut, Pegasus 3 covers 91.7% sRGB, with an average DeltaE of 6.4 and a maximum of 14.8. Meilan 3 is 89.1% sRGB, the average DeltaE is 3.8, and Hongmi 3 is 92.4% sRGB, the average DeltaE is 3.8. By comparing several machines with similar parameters, we can see that Pegasus 3 has the highest brightness, and its color temperature is closer to the standard 6500K. There is no advantage in color gamut and color accuracy.
System and performance
Asus Zenfone Pegasus 3 is equipped with MT6737 (4-core A53)+2/3G RAM+16/32G ROM of MediaTek, and we get the low configuration version of 2G+16G. Due to the low configuration, the performance of Pegasus 3 was basically the bottom of the CPU test, close to that of Hongmi 3 or Meilan 3, but far behind that of the hardware benchmark Le 2 in the 1000 yuan computer.

In terms of the system, Pegasus 3 is equipped with the easy 3.0 UI, which is based on Android 6.0. The interface is similar to the original Zenfone series, and there is no secondary menu. According to ASUS, Pegasus 3 is characterized by its unique SMS+and Earn+integration services, in which SMS+is similar to other manufacturers' integrated SMS, and different information cards are automatically generated according to the content of SMS. Earn+means that ASUS cooperates with other manufacturers to let users earn Zen coins by signing in, completing tasks or sharing content, and downloading applications, and then exchange Zen coins for different types of items, both virtual and physical. This function is good.
The installed applications will be automatically sorted into folders, and can be directly switched by sliding left and right. Since they are automatically sorted, it is "normal" for GeekBench to be thrown into the game. The cloud application below will recommend relevant content according to the applications in the folder, but this is not really a "cloud" application, just a shortcut to the web page.
As for the Dock middle button to directly start the trouble free program instead of the common launcher, it has been mentioned previously that Pegasus 3 is more likely to inexplicably stop the application during use. Fortunately, the probability of this is not high, and it is not clear whether it is because of the engineering machine. I hope this will not happen on mass production models. The smoothness of the system is OK, but it is a little sluggish because it has been used for a long time or there are many background programs.
Photo performance
The main camera of ASUS Zenfone Pegasus 3 is 13 million pixels, 5P lens, and f2.2 aperture. It is officially advertised as PixelMaster camera, but CMOS is unknown. The photographing interface of Pegasus 3 is relatively simple. When it is opened, it will remind the remaining space of the duration and number of photos that can be taken. Focusing is still the traditional contrast type. The "wind box" is obvious, the storage speed is slow, and the photography experience can only be said to be acceptable. Here we use Hongmi 3 as the reference model to see how the actual shooting effect of Pegasus 3 is.
Daytime proof
From the picture, we can see that Pegasus 3 has a larger wide-angle lens, and the white balance is much more accurate than Red Rice 3. The reflection of the bridge opening and the color of the lake water are basically restored to the actual naked eye, but the color of the sky is more accurate than Red Rice 3.
When zoomed in to 100% contrast, the details of Red Rice 3 are slightly better, and Pegasus 3 has a heavier sense of smearing. The wide-angle lens of Pegasus 3 also has a sharp decline in edge image quality, but this sharp decline is also a bit serious.
In this group of samples, the light measurement of Pegasus 3 is better than that of Red Rice 3. The font on the road sign is clear and visible, and the blue and white are restored well, but the font behind it is blurry after passing the focus center slightly, which is not as good as that of Red Rice 3.
Under some backlighting conditions, the white balance of the sample sheet of Pegasus 3 is remarkable, and the texture of the metal is restored better, but the details are still hard. The word "Wang" of the inscription "Wang Li" can be barely distinguished in the sample sheet of Red Rice 3, but Pegasus 3 is powerless.
Night and low light
In case of insufficient light, the night view mode of Pegasus 3 is easy to trigger, and the effect is shown in the figure below. Although the white balance and brightness have improved a lot, the noise of the full screen really affects the appearance. If you don't mind, you can try to shoot the night scene with Pegasus 3.
Endurance and others
The ASUS Zenfone Pegasus 3 is equipped with a 4100mAh large battery, 720P screen+MT6737 and other configurations. If there is no accident, the endurance performance of the Pegasus 3 should be good. It is regrettable that Pegasus 3 is equipped with 4100mAh batteries, but it does not support fast charging. The original 5V/2A charger is used for charging, and it takes three hours from 0% to 100%.
