The Android N Developer Preview has been updated recently. We have seen new features, such as support for new functions such as free windows and 3D Touch. Now it has been found by developers that Android N will natively support the popular VR mode.
In the latest Android N, click Settings>Apps>settings>Special access, and you will find a remarkable existence: VR helper services. From the perspective of settings, Google should set a new API for the VR mode for developers to use. After calling what may be called VR Listener in the source code, users can freely choose whether to enable the VR mode.
In addition, the settings also contain permissions required for VR services, so when the user starts VR mode, the VR helper services should have related actions. At the same time, if VR is used for a long time, there will be hardware performance and heating problems that need to be solved. Maybe, like the first generation of Gear VR, overheating will stop the operation.
Of course, the addition of VR mode for developers to test at this stage does not mean that the official version of Android N must support it. The specific choice depends on how Google cooperates with developers. Compared with the implementation method, what mobile VR can bring to consumers is more worthy of attention.
