Samsung S7/LG G5/V10/iPhone 6s Plus night shot comparison
Samsung S7/LG G5/V10/iPhone 6s Plus night shot comparison

LG G5 has just been released, and we also got the mass production machine at the first time, and compared it with the benchmark Samsung S7 edge, iPhone 6s Plus, and LG V10 for night photos. The iPhone 6s Plus is the benchmark of the old era. The G4 with the same camera module as the V10 is the peak of discrimination in the first half of 2015.

In this comparison, for the lighting and weak light scenes that more test the manufacturer's ability, now let's take a look at the G5 and S7 pattern painting list.

Parameters and experience

The main camera parameters of G5 are almost the same as those of V10, which are 16 million pixels+f1.8 aperture+laser focusing and optical anti shake. Considering that it does not support phase focusing, this CMOS is probably also IMX234. The latter can almost be considered as IMX240 without PDAF phase focusing.

Although G5 has a faster photo response, the two generation LG flagship ships have no phase focusing, and the focusing speed is slow, and the imaging speed is also slow, so the comprehensive experience is not very good.

Wide angle and lens quality

In actual production, the wide angle of G5 is almost the same as that of V10 (equivalent to 28mm), larger than that of iPhone (equivalent to 29mm), but smaller than that of S7 edge (equivalent to 26mm). When viewing the samples in equal proportion, the G5 and V10 with pixel advantages are one circle larger than the iPhone and S7 edge when shooting the same bear. But in this scene, G5 appears a strange white balance, and the color of the bear is floating.

camera lens In terms of glare control, several machines are unable to open the gap, but G5 has better control of flood/light overflow around the light source.

The film style of G5 is very different from that of V10. The previous problems of over exposure and low contrast have been corrected, and the saturation has also been improved. The accuracy of white balance is improved to a certain extent than that of V10, and is closer to the real hair color of iPhone than the uniform warm S7 edge, but there is no similar tendency of iPhone green.

In terms of discrimination, although the V10 has been very strong, the G5 still has a small improvement. Under strong light and normal light, the sharpness and detail performance comprehensively crush the S7 edge and iPhone with only 12 million pixels.

In extremely weak light, although the brightness of G5 is one gear lower than that of S7, the picture brightness is closer to that seen by the naked eye. In addition, because there is no need to significantly increase the brightness, the image details of G5 are retained much better than those of S7 edge. In the scene where the ISO of S7 edge, which is known as night vision instrument, has soared to 1250, G5 can also maintain better image details and purity, and perform amazingly.

Summary

The Android camp has been busy taking photos for two years. The only thing left in the iPhone's photo myth is the relatively stable white balance. Although V10 continues to use the hardware in the first half of 2015, it seems to have improved after upgrading Android 6.0. Even in the face of S7 and G5, it has not lost much, and some scenarios can even be reversed.

LG G5 corrects the low contrast and saturation of G4/V10 images, improves the saturation, and makes the white balance more stable. However, the stability is far from that of S7 edge, iPhone and other models famous for algorithms. In addition, LG's automatic photography experience really needs to be improved, especially the lack of phase focus and slow imaging speed, which makes it really difficult to compare with the flagship of its peers such as S7.

This is similar to the situation of S6 against G4 last year. S7 has a good photo taking experience, and G5 has a fierce analytical power. For the Maoist Party, LG G5 is now the peak of discrimination, and it is the overall peak from daytime to extremely weak light. Finally, for normal users, who is better at taking photos depends on whether you value white balance/photo experience or discrimination.
