Attention Xiaomi mobile phone 5 We finally met on February 24, which is also a new flagship of the orthodox Xiaomi series after a year and a half. What are its highlights? Let's begin our evaluation today:
PS: This evaluation uses Xiaomi mobile phone 5 high configuration (Snapdragon 820 2.15GHz, 3G+64G, glass back cover, price 2299 yuan) engineering machine, for reference only
Unpacking and appearance
The packaging of Xiaomi Mobile 5 (hereinafter referred to as Xiaomi 5) is similar to that of Hongmi Note3, which uses white paper boxes with color renderings.
The back of the package is still the relevant parameter of the product, and Xiaomi 5 has used it Snapdragon 820 2.15GHz processor, which is also the first batch of mobile phones officially launched using Snapdragon 820. 5.15 inch 1080P screen, front press fingerprint identification, rear 16 million pixels with optical anti shake camera, front 4 million pixels camera, battery capacity 3000mAh.
There is still a frosted protective film on the front of the fuselage.
Simple accessories, power adapter USB Type-C Data cable and clip.
Power adapter support Qualcomm QC3.0 Standard, with multiple voltage gears. Typical outputs are 5V 2.5A, 9V 2A and 12V 1.5A Three, maximum support 18W Power.
Data line adopts USB Type-C Interface, which is the second Xiaomi product that uses this interface.
The fuselage is still in the traditional style of Xiaomi, with the logo of Xiaomi in the upper left corner. This time, the front home key is used, and the pressing fingerprint identification is used.
Xiaomi 5 adopts an ultra narrow border design, and the volume of the mobile phone is well controlled.
The design of the earpiece is very similar to that of Xiaomi Note. The recessed earpiece has 4 million pixels in front UltraPixel camera.
Xiaomi 5 is also the first mobile phone that Xiaomi has added to the physical Home key. This key also has Push fingerprint recognition Function of. However, the contact area of Xiaomi 5's fingerprint recognition will be smaller than that of other similar products, and the keys will appear slender.
The Home key has a multi task key on the left and a return key on the right. It has a white backlight, which can be turned off. At the same time, when it lights up, it looks "cute". However, the too low Home key and the wide "chin" always look out of tune.
There is a large area of 3D glass on the back cover, which is a continuation of the design language of Xiaomi Note.
3D glass gives people a strong three-dimensional sense. If you only look at the back cover, it is more like a small Xiaomi Note.
The back is made of double curved glass, which Xiaomi calls 3D glass 。
The difference is that the design of Xiaomi 5 on the metal frame is more mature, and the arc of the back continues to the frame, making the feel more excellent. The card slot is on the left side of the phone.
It supports two nano SIM cards, All Netcom, and three major domestic operators. In addition, the two card slots can be inserted with telecom cards.
There are volume keys and power keys on the right side of the fuselage.
It can be seen that the chamfer of the frame is more exaggerated than that of Xiaomi Note. A wider and more arc shaped design is adopted from the top of the fuselage to the side of the fuselage.
The rear camera is upgraded to 16 million pixels, using Sony IMX298 sensor, with four axis optical anti shake, 6P lens, F2.0 aperture.
The camera doesn't protrude. The thickness of the body is 7.25mm, which is well controlled.
There is a 3.5mm headphone connector on the top of the body, and the infrared function is reserved.
Xiaomi 5 uses the central USB Type-C design, and the earpiece and speaker are respectively placed on the left and right sides of the USB interface.
System and function
Xiaomi 5 uses the latest version of Android 6.0 based MIUI 7.1 The overall operation and UI are very similar to those before, and of course, some new functions have been added.
Xiaomi 5 has re added the function of NFC, which is called "full function NFC". It can swipe and charge bus cards through NFC. The function of NFC recharge bus card is integrated into Xiaomi wallet.
When the bus card is close to the NFC coil of the mobile phone, you can query the latest consumption record.
Xiaomi 5 retains an infrared sensor, which can make mobile phones act as remote controls for various appliances. Xiaomi 5 also has a one button phone change function, which is convenient for Xiaomi users to change new phones.
Xiaomi 5 is the first Xiaomi mobile phone with the front entity Home key. This entity key can also realize the function of home key when you touch it daily. However, it is difficult to understand that the same function can be achieved by tapping and pressing this button, and it cannot be set by itself. Both the ordinary and high configuration versions of the Xiaomi 5 have "only" 3G memory. It can use about 1.7G when starting up. There is still room for optimization.
Xiaomi 5 uses push fingerprint recognition. It is similar to other products of the same type in terms of input and use, but its sensor and finger contact area is obviously smaller. In addition, the way to unlock with fingerprint identification is similar to that of Samsung mobile phones. You need to light the screen first, and when you put your finger on the sensor in the locked screen state, it will not automatically unlock.
performance
As a brand new flagship of Xiaomi, Xiaomi 5 has used Qualcomm's new flagship Snapdragon 820, as expected, and high-end hardware such as 3G LPDDR4, UFS2.0. It is also the first Snapdragon 820 mobile phone to be launched in large quantities (March 1).
Snapdragon 820 used Quad core Kryo Core, which is a high-performance 64 bit processor independently developed by Qualcomm, including two cores 2.15GHz , the other two cores 1.593GHz , CPU model is MSM8996 , step by step r1p2 。 GPU is also Qualcomm's strongest Adreno 530@624MHz , the performance is very powerful, surpassing Apple's A9 processor, and it is the GPU with the strongest graphics performance on mobile phones. It is worth mentioning that the GPU driver version V141 of Xiaomi 5 is comparable to the Nexus series.
We carried out a routine test - Anthare evaluation, which was close to 140000 points. Although there was a slight gap with the official announcement (not excluding the exclusive version test with stronger performance), it was already a lone winner compared with the competing products. Another famous test Geekbench 3, the single core performance successfully exceeded 2300 points, and the multi-core performance also exceeded 5300 points, performing well, among which the single core performance ranked top among Android phones.
We also conducted Pi and RAR tests, in which Pi performance is average, taking nearly 25 seconds, but we can't be too strict with a quad core product. The RAR performance is good. Although there are only four threads, it also has more than 1800 points, Comparable to many 8-thread mobile phones 。
Sunspider's test performance is average, even not as good as that of Snapdragon 810. In the AndroBench disk test, the results of continuous reading, writing and random reading all belong to the excellent performance in UFS2.0, which is stronger than Samsung S6 and Meizu Pro 5. Random writing performance is average, even worse than eMMC 5.0 products.
For the score of Xiaomi 5, we can compare it with other high-end mobile phones. It can be seen that the Snapdragon 820 does not show any big difference compared with the multi-core SoC in some tests that require multithreading.
In the Geekbench test, the single core performance of the Xiaomi 5 is amazing, second only to the iPhone 6s Plus, and the multi-core performance is also equal to the Galaxy Note5 with eight cores, with excellent performance.
In comparison with A1 SD Bench, thanks to the strength of UFS2.0, Xiaomi 5 even surpasses Galaxy Note5 in reading performance, but its writing performance is not eye-catching.
We reuse The CPU Burn produced by Xiaomi 5 is used to test some performance performances of Xiaomi 5. The floating point performance under single thread is 44~45GFLOPS, which exceeds the previous strongest Kirin 950 (A72 2.3GHz). The power consumption of a single core exceeds 3500mW (there may be errors in the test software, which is only for reference). The Cache Test shows that the second level cache of Snapdragon 820 should be about 1.5M.
We have also tried the case of full open quad core (that is to say, we have not played the quad core Android phone for a long time...). The floating point computing performance is 120GFLOPS About, between the Exynos 7420 and Kirin 950 with all eight cores open, it is hard for a four core product. The power consumption exceeded 8000mW (maybe the test software was wrong, for reference only), which was unexpected and higher than the eight core CPUs such as Exynos 7420 and Kirin 950. In terms of stability, we turned on the CPU Burn and turned on the quad core. From 0 to 27 seconds, we could keep the quad core fully open and running at full frequency. Then the frequency of the big core was reduced to 2080 MHz. At about 1 minute and 50 seconds, the frequency of each core began to fluctuate. The overall performance is satisfactory. Compared with the Snapdragon 810, it has been greatly improved, but it is almost the same as the abnormal frequency stability of Kirin 950.
In daily use, the Snapdragon 820 can easily achieve full open of four cores and high-frequency operation, which is very beneficial to the overall response speed of the system. In the process of daily application, the cores will be dynamically adjusted to about 1GHz to save power consumption.
We also conducted the "metaphysical curve" test, running third-party applications such as Sina Weibo and mobile Taobao, and the performance was commendable. With a high-performance CPU, huge bandwidth and 1080P resolution, Xiaomi 5 has no reason to be unsmooth.

Xiaomi 5 uses a 16 million pixel rear camera, Sony IMX298 sensor, along with "four axis optical anti shake" and F2.0 aperture, which has significantly improved the camera configuration compared with the previous generation of products. The camera interface continues the traditional style of MIUI, and I believe that users who have used it can easily get started. We use the iPhone 6s Plus, which also uses optical anti shake, as the contrast object to see how Xiaomi 5 can take photos:

Xiaomi 5 photo proof (click to view the original picture)
From the perspective of analytical power, there is not much difference between the two groups of samples. However, Xiaomi 5 has a slight exposure. The iPhone 6s Plus is better at controlling the color and brightness.

This group of sample Millet 5 has more picture details and more beautiful colors, but it is obvious that the color noise of the picture is serious. From the EXIF information, the iPhone 6s Plus's approach is to lower the ISO as much as possible, extend the shutter time, and obtain better purity. However, Xiaomi's ISO was too high in the comparison between the two groups, which directly led to excessive noise in the picture. In fact, Xiaomi 5 can fully use four axis anti shake to achieve longer exposure time, and blindly improving ISO is not a good dark light solution.
Xiaomi 5 supports the black technology called "All Netcom 3.0", which is improved on the basis of All Netcom 2.0, specifically in the use of the main card China Mobile/Unicom 4G At the same time, the secondary card can also Voice call using 3G network 。 The other black technology three carrier aggregation network of Xiaomi 5 cannot be tested here due to domestic network restrictions.
In the charging test, we use the original power adapter to charge the remaining 4%, which can achieve 7.41V 2.07A , total power exceeds 15W Good performance. The common voltages of 5V and 9V are not used. It can also be seen that Xiaomi 5 uses Qualcomm's QC3.0 technology (200mV is the first level regulating voltage to improve charging efficiency). In terms of charging test time, we use the original power adapter for charging, From 4% to 100%, it takes about 78 minutes , the performance was quite good.
summary
From this simple hands-on experience, Xiaomi 5 has brought us many surprises, with its strong performance, better camera and fit feel. With the improvement of these hardware, it still maintains a high cost performance ratio, allowing consumers to experience a "fast" mobile phone at about 2000 yuan. Of course, there are some minor problems with Xiaomi 5, such as unreasonable setting of physical key functions, too much noise in photographing, and slow flash memory reading. For more and more detailed experience of Xiaomi 5, please pay attention to our follow-up evaluation.
