802.11ac is outdated, 802.11ah is the future

On the morning of January 5, the WiFi Alliance officially released the 802.11ah WiFi standard this week, namely "HaLow". This technology is suitable for low-power, long-distance IoT devices.

The new generation 802.11ah standard will use the frequency band below 1GHz to realize low power consumption, long-distance wireless LAN connection, and improve the disadvantage that the current Wi Fi signal is easily hindered by buildings and affects the transmission distance and coverage.

Edgar Figueroa, CEO of WiFi Alliance, said: "WiFi HaLow is very suitable for the unique needs of smart home, smart city and industrial market. The power consumption of this technology is very low, and the ability to penetrate the wall is strong. Compared with the current WiFi technology, this technology has a longer coverage distance. "

HaLow uses the 900MHz frequency band, which is lower than the current WiFi 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands. This means lower power consumption, which is important for devices such as sensors and smart watches. At the same time, the coverage of HaLow can reach 1km, and the signal is stronger and not easily interfered.
