Pretend to be a laptop, ASUS Transformer Book T300 Chi experience

Now the boundaries between tablets and laptops running Windows system are becoming more and more blurred. Especially since the Surface, many manufacturers have also launched pseudo tablets that can be turned into laptops by connecting keyboards. Asustek, which always likes to play with deformation, naturally refuses to stand idly by, and has launched the T300, which looks like a laptop, but in fact, we prefer to regard it as a tablet.

Specifications:

1.2GHz Intel Core M 5Y71 processor (dual core, 4MB cache, maximum Remax frequency up to 2.9GHz);

Intel HD5300 Integrated Display;

8GB 1600MHz DDR3L memory;

128GB solid state disk;

12.5 inch 2560 × 1440 IPS screen, capacitive multi touch screen;

MicroUSB 3.0, MicroHDMI, MicroSD card slot;

Price: 6010 yuan.

In addition, ASUS also provides 1080p screen style for users to choose. The size of 1080p screen remains unchanged, the processor is downgraded to Core M 5Y10, the RAM is downgraded to 4GB, and the price is 4580 yuan.

As mentioned earlier, T300 is a more tablet oriented product. The keyboard, like many Windows 8.1 products, is removable. The 7.6mm thick body discards the full-size USB interface, HDMI interface and even SD card slot. All important parts are plugged behind the 12.5 inch 2560 × 1440 IPS screen, including Intel Core M processor With 8GB RAM and a 128GB SSD, the low heat core M processor also means that the T300 can say goodbye to the fan like the new MacBook. With the original Bluetooth keyboard, the total thickness is only 16.5mm and the total weight is about 3kg.

After abandoning those standard interfaces, the T300 has only one MicroUSB, one MicroHDMI and one MicroSD card slot left. Therefore, if you need to connect any external device, you must use adapters and other things. After all, thin and light devices have a price, but the value of this generation is not worth it. It depends on the individual.

In addition to the interface, the T300 has another sacrifice - the keyboard.

Although the original factory is equipped with a bluetooth keyboard, and the bluetooth adapter does not need to make any matching when connecting, the bluetooth keyboard has a short key range, no backlight, and the palm rest is not large enough to provide much support even if it is hit for a long time. The touchpad at the bottom of the keyboard supporting multi touch gestures is very responsive, but it is also too small, and it is not easy to use.

In addition, there is another problem with the Bluetooth keyboard, which is the operation delay. Although the Bluetooth keyboard and the T300 will be fixed by magnets like the Surface, this keyboard does not have a physical connection with the host like the Surface. Therefore, every time the keyboard is turned on, the user always needs to experience that period of pairing connection, Occasionally, there will be delay in input.

Well, since the keyboard is not easy to use, let's use it as a tablet.

But the problem is that if you use a Windows 8.1 device as a tablet, it's even more strange. The T300 is no exception. Except for the keyboard, the body weight is about half a kilogram. The huge screen and the racehorse frame make the T300 bulky in the hands of users - at least not like the iPad The 12.5 inch 16:9 screen also determines that the best working posture of the T300 is the horizontal screen mode. The clarity and visual angle are quite good. However, due to the Windows 8.1 system, even in the tablet mode, it feels like a laptop that supports a touch screen.

But to be honest, this screen is a bit too gorgeous for color restoration, and the reflection of this screen is slightly serious. If it is used outdoors, the visibility is not good. However, considering that the main use scene of such a device will still be indoors or on the traffic tools, the readability under strong light does not need to be studied too deeply, And this problem also exists in many other similar products.

However, the biggest advantage of running the desktop system directly is that you don't have to worry about the software. The 1.2GHz Core M can basically provide enough performance to run Chrome, Word and other software. The 8GB RAM is also quite good for multi task support and quick response. However, as for 3D games, don't bother it.

Finally, the performance scores are as follows:

3DMark: Cloud Gate: 4,583; Sky Diver: 1,965; Fire Strike: 516

Cinebench CPU: 245 ; Graphics: 24.65 fps

In fact, the biggest problem of the T300 is its endurance. Although the official said that the T300 has an 8-hour battery life, in the actual endurance test, The T300 only lasted for 6 hours and 38 minutes. If you usually use Chrome to browse the web, use Word to edit text, and run chat software, the battery life will drop to 5 hours. Unfortunately, ASUS did not use the keyboard to expand the battery design, so although the matching Bluetooth keyboard can have 84 hours of life, the host computer has no power to tell the truth, The keyboard is useless even if it has electricity.

So in terms of overall performance and experience, the T300 is very suitable for mobile office, but its poor battery life also determines that the T300 is difficult to meet the user's demand of not touching the power supply for a whole day in actual use. Although the T300 battery is better than the Surface Pro, compared with Lenovo Yoga Pro 3, which can last up to 7 hours, the T300 battery life is not excellent.

At present, after seeing the new MacBook launched by Apple, many people think that it will be the future of notebook computers. But to be honest, that future is a bit too far away. At present, the most important thing for mobile office is a user-friendly keyboard, a narrower screen border and better endurance. The T300 may be heading in the right direction, but its journey of a thousand miles has just begun.

fabulous:

Ultra-thin fuselage;

Excellent workmanship;

Sufficient performance.

Bounce:

Poor endurance;

The touch pad is too small;

Too few interfaces;

The keyboard hinge can be turned at a small angle.
