New favorite, Microsoft Lumia 640, 640XL

This time in MWC 2015, Microsoft did not launch a flagship smartphone, which is somewhat disappointing. However, Microsoft has brought us at least two new models 640 and 640XL, which are positioned at the middle and low end. The latter has the addition of ZEISS certification. The running system will also be upgraded to Windows 10 in the future. What will they do?

We started with Lumia 640. This mobile phone is equipped with a 5-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 720p. It will provide 3G network version and 4G network version. Compared with the previous 630/635640, it has upgraded the camera to 8 million pixels and added LED fill light. It supports 1080p video recording. The front camera has been upgraded to 1 million pixels and can output 720p images. The 5-inch 720p screen uses the common IPS material, adds the screen pleasing technology, and the surface is covered with Corning Gorilla glass. The PPI is slightly lower than 300, but fortunately, the visual angle and color look great.

The back of the fuselage is made of polished polycarbonate material. The orange fuselage is very Lumia like. In addition to orange, the 640 also provides cyan, black and white fuselage for selection. The main camera does not have as many functions as Lumia's flagship mobile phone, but compared with its predecessor, the 640 camera still has more functions. As for hardware, the size of this 8 megapixel sensor is 1/4 ". It uses a backlight design, and Microsoft matches it with a 28mm wide angle and a 2.2 aperture.

The 640 uses a 2500 mAh battery, which can provide more than 17 hours of 3G talk time and 11 hours of Wi Fi web browsing time. As for the processor specifications, the 640 and 640XL are the same, which will be mentioned later.

The 640 has a body thickness of about 8.8 mm, which is relatively thin for smart phones at this price. However, the 640 continues the emphasis of Lumia's mobile phone - this 5-inch mobile phone weighs 145 grams.

As for the 640 XL, this machine is relatively more competitive. Although it has the same 720p resolution, the screen size has been expanded to 5.7 inches, and the polycarbonate back cover and 171g weight still make people feel very Lumia. The 9mm body is thinner than the competitor MOTO G.

This 5.7 inch IPS screen has an excellent viewing angle. Microsoft has also added polarization filter and screen pleasing technology to it, which can reduce the reflection of the screen to improve the overall performance of the screen. The protective glass of the screen uses the popular Corning Gorilla 3.

The most eye-catching hardware on the 640XL is the 13 million pixel ZEISS certified lens, which is the first time that the ZEISS certified lens has appeared on Lumia phones at this price, The size of the 13 megapixel sensor has reached 1/3 ". It looks good with the F/2.0 aperture, but there is no optical anti shake. Considering the pricing and positioning of the 640XL, it is understandable not to add optical anti shake.

The front camera is 5 million pixels, and like the rear camera, it supports 1080p video recording. The F/2.4 aperture and 24mm wide-angle lens are also reminiscent of the front lens of Lumia 735.

In addition to using better hardware, Microsoft has also improved the Lumia camera and the Lumia self timer function, adding a function called Living Image, which is similar to HTC's ZOE, and can record 1 second of video and then generate photos.

Overall, 640 and 640XL are the most disappointing The expected specification should be a processor, just a Snapdragon 400 processor. The CPU unit uses the outdated Cortex-A7 four core design, with a maximum frequency of 1.2GHz. With Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB RAM, the Windows Phone 8.1 operating system can run smoothly.
