According to microblog user @ mobile chip expert, Qualcomm will launch new terminal SoCs with models of MSM8956 and MSM8976. They will use the new Maia (that is, Cortex-A72) core, which is expected to become the first SoC in the world to use Cortex-A72.
As can be seen from the disclosure map, MSM8956 is a "2+4" SoC, which uses dual core Maia (most likely the newly released new core Cortex-A72) 1.8GHz with quad core A53 1.2GHz, while MSM8976 is a "4+4" SoC, which uses quad core Maia 1.8GHz with quad core A53 1.2GHz. They all have 2 * 32bit LPDDR3 933MHz memory (memory bandwidth 14.9GB/s), support eMMC5.1 technology, match Adreno 510 graphics processor, and support LTE Cat. 6 network. Unfortunately, they only use the 28nm HPm process. From the surrounding parameters, MSM8956 and MSM8976 are mid tier products.
In addition, there is also a new SoC called MSM8952. It is an eight core architecture composed of four core A53 1.5GHz - 1.7GHz and four core A53 1.2GHz. It only uses a single channel 32bit LPDDR3 933MHz memory (memory bandwidth 7.45GB/s), supports eMMC5.1 technology, works with the Adreno 405 graphics processor, and supports LTE Cat. 6 networks. It also uses the 28nm HPm process. From the parameters, the MSM8952 is likely to be an upgraded product of Snapdragon 615 (MSM8939).
