The Moto X in this evaluation is the first model introduced by Moto, and also the first model equipped with native Android 5.0 in China. There are quite a lot of accessories. In addition to the warranty and the manual, there is an environmental protection instruction card for the back cover. The official sim pin is exquisitely made, and the holding part is covered with plastic.
The attached wired headset Earbud and Turbo Charger turbo charger are accessories that need to be purchased separately in foreign versions. The former costs $19.99 (125 yuan), and the latter $34.99 (219 yuan), which makes the Bank of China version very sincere.
Tubro Charger is large, but not heavy, and supports three output modes: 5V/1.6A, 9V/1.6A, and 12V/1.2A. Mobile phones that support Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 technology, such as Xiaomi 4, HTC M8, and Sony Z3, can be used directly. Although the 3.83mm frame width is not the top, the proportion of the fuselage screen is 73.12% depending on the narrow chin and forehead. On the front of the white version, the most obvious one must be up to 6 sensor openings.

Although they are not harmonious on the white panel, they make the distance of gesture recognition of the machine reach 15cm, and cover almost the whole front of the fuselage.
There are metal brackets on the earpiece and chin speaker on the forehead of the fuselage, and the real speaker mesh is around it. This design makes the earpiece and speaker an excellent tool for dust accumulation, which is difficult to manage.
The bracket is slightly higher than the screen. It can hold the screen up when it is reversed, so that the sound is not covered. It can also protect the screen when the front falls. There are longitudinal horizontal lines on the surface of the bracket, which can limit the sliding direction when it is placed upside down. This design is very careful.
The back cover is made of a whole piece of natural bamboo. Because it is made of natural materials, each cover has a unique texture. In addition to the black, pink, blue and red plastic rear covers, the first batch of customized rear covers sold in China are also ebony and leather.
The Moto Maker online design platform will be launched in the first half of the year, and then you can customize the back cover materials, button colors, and metal border colors just like foreign countries. In addition, you can also provide laser engraving services like Apple devices (engraved quotes, etc.).
The top camera is surrounded by a ring of LED flash lights (two LED lights on both sides of the ring serve as the light source), and the middle part is the logo of moto. It is rumored that this position was originally used to place fingerprint sensors, but it was later cancelled due to supplier problems. Two noise reduction microphones are placed at the top and bottom respectively (the other two microphones are placed in the front earpiece and speaker).
The aluminum alloy middle frame is not a common two-dimensional bending. It has different bending in three dimensions, which is difficult to fit the user's palm.

In terms of the size of the fuselage, MotoX has the advantage. From the left to the right of the above figure are Samsung S5, Xiaomi 4, Moto X, and Xshot. The length of Moto X is much shorter than that of xshot (5.2 inches) of the same screen size, and is the same as that of the 5-inch Mi4 and 5.1-inch Samsung S5.
Although the width is not 5 inches lower than M4, it is similar to S5 of 5.1 inches.
The edge of the screen has been polished by 2.5D, and the gorilla glass is slightly higher than the frame. With rounded corners, the holding feel is really like the legend says: very good. The side sliding and holding feel can be comparable to that of the HTC M8 and iPhone 6.
In addition, one of the details that can easily be ignored is that Moto X uses nano coating to prevent water splashing from inside to outside. The official statement is that "accidental splashing or even talking in the rain will not damage your phone", which is the highest level of waterproof treatment except for the three prevention models.

The mobile phone is an important organ of many people. Even if it is not in your hand, it will still be in your pocket. It may even take three or four hours a day. You always hope that they will be handy.
The most obvious factors affecting the hand feel are appearance shape, center of gravity distribution, material texture, and joint details (height and size).
MotoX is really impeccable in shape, but the metal frame on the back is protruding outwards, and the chamfer is not big enough, making it slightly cut. In addition, when the phone is placed on the desktop for operation, the fully curved back cover will make the phone shake constantly.
In addition, the lower part of the fuselage is "thinned" for hand feeling, so that the center of gravity is shifted to the camera part. When you play with one hand, the center of gravity will run out of the palm, giving you a feeling similar to the HTC M8 that "the phone needs to be turned out of the palm".

The MotoX screen has gone to 5.2 inches. It is not practical to say how good the single hand grip and operation feel can be. At the very least, the action of pulling the notice board cannot be completed without changing hands;
The metal frame at the bottom of the fuselage protrudes outward and the chamfer is small, so the tail finger bearing the weight of the fuselage is actually not comfortable. Fortunately, the fuselage is very light, so this problem is not obvious.
In terms of material quality, the natural bamboo back cover has a slight texture and a cooler touch. In fact, there is little difference between the touch and plastic. However, the large tolerance brought by the natural material actually brings about a large gap between the top and bottom, and a significant difference between the touch and the metal frame. Although the plastic back cover version is slightly lower, it is estimated that the feel will be better.
There is another problem with the special material rear cover: the leather rear cover is afraid of water and will absorb sweat and change color after a long time of use. Although the soft surface feels good, it is easy to attract scratches; While the natural bamboo version is relatively easy to manage, it will look older.
Although intellectually know that there are many problems with natural materials, just like people prefer to eat hand rolled noodles, this is a kind of force that makes you willing to trouble for it. Although the author blurted out its many shortcomings, its feel is still one of the "best" ones compared with its rivals on the market.
Screen performance
Moto X is equipped with a 5.2 inch 1920 * 1080 Super AMOLED screen (PPI is 442), which is not a problem in terms of delicacy. In terms of color performance, it also inherits the characteristics of oversaturation and high contrast of AMOLED screens.
Moto X displays full white with 100% brightness, and the maximum brightness is only 230 nits, which is low.
However, the AMOLED screen has an ancestral dynamic brightness allocation method: the unified power supply of the screen is almost constant, so the fewer pixels lit, the higher their local brightness (loosely, the smaller the diameter of the water pipe, the greater the water pressure).
When the white proportion decreases, the local brightness of the screen increases significantly. When the white proportion drops to 1/4-1/3, the brightness rises to 380 nits.
After the automatic brightness is set, once there is a strong light source, the screen brightness will also gain. Even the full white display can soar to 367 nits, and the visibility performance can be good even in the sun.
Samsung S5 OPPO R5、 Xiaomi 4 is used as a contrast. Except Xiaomi 4, all of them are AMOLED screens. Samsung S5 is adjusted to adaptive mode, and Xiaomi 4 is adjusted to natural+bright mode. In the unified brightness test, the brightness order of the four computers is Xiaomi 4>R5>S5>Moto X.
The uniform 100% brightness displays white, and the screen tuning of Moto X also appears obviously red in the AMOLED camp.
Pure black display is the biggest advantage of AMOLED screen. Except for the obvious light leakage at the top of Xiaomi 4, the other three machines are almost pure black.
In terms of solid color performance, the three machines with AMOLED screens are very close, which is more beautiful than the Xiaomi 4 with IPS screen. Especially on the red display, in front of the AMOLED screen, the IPS screen looks like pink in red. Moto X's blue and green colors are more profound, while red colors are more elegant.
In the proof performance, the saturation of Xiaomi 4 was powerless in front of the AMOLED screen, and the final sunset sample showed white details in the dark due to poor contrast.
Samsung S5 shows a green trend (sunset sample), Moto X shows a yellow trend (grass sample) and a red trend (back shell sample), and R5 shows a blue trend (lotus and sea sample).

On the death diagonal in four directions, three machines with AMOLED screens have performed well. The Xiaomi 4 with IPS screen is bright in the lower left and upper right corners due to the limitation of the display principle, and has obvious brightness attenuation in the other two focuses, which is not satisfactory.
The actual appearance is similar to that of the sample test. The R5 screen is severely blue, while the motoX screen is moderately yellow, which directly causes their appearance to be a bit heavy. The S5 is also biased, but the amplitude is the smallest. The cruel facts have proved once again that Samsung has left its best AMOLED screen to itself (perhaps the best tuning).
To sum up, although the overall brightness of Moto X's screen is not very high, it has good performance in terms of color performance and visual angle, while color tuning is red and yellow. However, these can be easily found only by direct comparison, and can be rarely detected in daily use (Samsung S2/NOTE2 and other models with color shading can be seen at a glance, but they don't talk).
system
Moto is the fastest system upgrade manufacturer besides the current son of Google (it is said that it can be adapted within 8 days after the system is launched). While many flagship phones are still worrying about upgrading to 5.0, Moto X has already been equipped with Android 5.0.2. This makes it one of the highest version phones sold in China.
Moto still adheres to the tradition of "only providing the most fluent and pure system, and other customizations are left to the user's choice", so the Moto X we see is almost native and extremely clean on the system. Including system applications, there are only 23 applications in total.
The desktop applications on Android 5.0 are "simplified" again. This time, the application drawer is really just a drawer, without sorting and plug-in selection functions. Although the desktop is very beautiful, it is not as easy as domestic products.
The notification bar only displays notifications by default, and the second pull-down will display huge shortcut buttons with a translucent background and delicate transition animation. The card stacked task manager will record all the applications and web pages that have been opened, and will not be cleared even after restarting. The application switching speed is high.
In terms of basic services, Google services have been replaced by Lenovo and domestic third-party applications because of its entry into China. This may be a good thing for users who rarely climb over the wall. After all, the power consumption of the Google framework they don't need is incredibly high 。
Google Now has been replaced by China Mobile's Lingxi Voice (if it is not a user of China Mobile, it will send you several free confirmation messages in the background. At first, it thought it was a Trojan horse in the mobile phone...). The software store and security applications have been replaced by Lenovo's Le Store and Le Security, but they have all been reset, and Lenovo's shadow is completely invisible. The functions are very simple and restrained, and quite "native".
Even its own music (pure offline player) and media library (album) have been changed to conform to Android's native specifications. The latter also has a "wonderful picture" function similar to HTC Zoe, which can automatically turn photos/videos into animated videos according to their locations, but its practicability is not high.
Moto mobile computing system
Although the system is very compact and restrained, the unique "mobile computing system" of moto mobile phones has been retained and encapsulated in an app called "Moto".
In essence, it is a collection of quick functions and personal assistants that are convenient for users to operate. Well known functions such as waving display and all-weather voice response are actually part of it.
It includes "assistant, operation, voice and display" (the left figure). The assistant can enable the mobile phone to enter the Do Not Disturb mode at certain times such as sleeping at night to keep the machine silent; The Do Not Disturb mode can be turned on when the user is in a meeting according to the agenda of the calendar (now only the calendar is supported), and missed calls can be replied through preset SMS.
In terms of quick operation, it includes the somatosensory gesture operations known by moto fans, such as "waving mute, rotating shooting, reaching out for display, swinging the flashlight":
When an incoming call or alarm clock rings, you can automatically mute or postpone the alarm clock by waving your hand within 15cm above the screen;
Swing your wrist to trigger the camera to open, and it can also be triggered if the action is slow, and the response is fast;
Proximity trigger is completed by three additional infrared sensors on the body, which can basically wake up the screen when you are near the top of the phone;
However, the function of swinging the flashlight is less used. It needs a little force to simulate the "cutting" action. With some shallow vibrations, the flashlight will turn on or off.
In fact, many mobile phones have similar functions, but the success rate and fault tolerance rate of gesture operation in actual use are far higher than other mobile phones. Note that all other mobile phones (except the first generation motoX). For the time being, only the moto X series with additional motion sensors and chips can perform this function well.
The voice function is an important reason why the author almost started the first generation of motoX in those years. Because of the built-in all-weather natural semantic processor, the machine will "wait" for the voice wake-up of the user in the background (even if the screen is turned off), which can completely avoid manual voice operations.
The machine supports re entering other voice commands, and will recognize voiceprint information, so that other people cannot wake up. After awakening, the search platform accessed was changed from Google Now to Lingxi Voice. Although the latter is not as intelligent as Google Now, its actual response speed and recognition results are very close to the "original".
Among other series of mobile phones, only the MX4 Pro has a similar voice chip for the time being, but Meizu's optimization has not been well done. Its voice wake-up requires high distance and quiet environment, and often fails to wake up with the system standby.
However, the one on motoX is not perfect. The four microphones can ensure that they can wake up with normal speaking volume at the handheld distance, but the sound decays too fast in the air. If the distance from the mobile phone exceeds 1m, you have to shout; However, if the environment is noisy, it is still necessary to use the gesture of WeChat voice. Although this is a powerful tool, the most common thing is to get up and ask about the weather and let the machine play music.
However, the author still believes that this precipice is still a big selling point of MotoX. After all, there is only one company on the earth that can do voice functions so well.
The notification display function itself is very simple. It allows application and system notifications to appear on the lock screen interface. However, with the pure black display of the AMOLED screen, it almost consumes no power, so that the screen only lights up the required pixels to display notifications. When your hand is close to the machine or passing over it, or even gently shaking the phone (you can wake up by tapping the desktop), the screen will display the time and notice.
At this time, you can go up to the relevant application or down to unlock it. If a notice is not viewed, it will flash the unlock interface periodically to remind you. And the following offline standby test tells you that this function has a slight impact on the standby duration and is worth turning on (ironically, the moto that uses the best features of the A screen can't get the best A screen).
The result of these functions is that basically when you pick up the phone or reach over, it has lit up the screen to display the time, waiting for you to unlock it. This is my favorite feature detail in the process of using it. It feels good to have a mobile phone waiting for you faithfully, and the screen lock key is almost idle.
As for the problem of false triggering, within 6 days before the author got the evaluation machine to the deadline, the machine had not been unlocked in the pocket by mistake, and the flashlight and camera had not been opened unintentionally. This was because the author changed the voice trigger command to "OK moto", and the voice system had been triggered twice by mistake.
In addition, MOTO official said that the driving mode in the foreign version will also be added later, which can judge whether the user is driving or not according to the user's movement speed and background noise, and automatically open the driving mode. As for the expansion accessories, the official has a Moto Hint Bluetooth headset that supports voice commands, and can directly wake up the phone's voice assistant through the headset.

The sensor of the new Moto X has been changed from a generation of 10 million pixel OV CMOS to Sony's IMX135. It is a pity that the current flagship mainstream IMX214 is not used (LG G3 is also encountered).
The use of a native camera is logically opposite to that of a conventional camera. Arbitrary clicking on the screen triggers the shutter, while dragging the focus box in the middle allows you to re measure light and focus, with real-time preview. The left stroke calls out the set dial, which can be used to switch HDR, flash, etc. The right stroke is the picture preview, and sliding up and down can be used for digital focusing.
The author's opinion on this use logic is contrary to the @ oracle. Normal people are more likely to shoot when they pull up. Making the whole screen a shutter can save the trouble of aiming at the shutter button. For deep users, they can now preview the light measurement changes in real time, which can be quite handy after getting used to it.
In practice, the focusing and imaging speed of the machine is fast, and it supports 4K video output and 1080P@60fps 's slow motion video recording.
The white balance of the machine is accurate, slightly yellow and warm. The default metering is uniform and bright, but the tolerance of IMX135 is not high. Scenes with large light and dark differences are prone to lose light/dark details.

The HDR effect is not ideal. Although it can show dark details, the sky and the right side of the building appear obvious discoloration.
The nearest macro distance is about 5-10cm. Although the aperture is only F2.25, the background illusion effect is good, and the success rate of focusing is high.
In terms of night scene and weak light performance, Moto X's strategy is to give priority to ensuring the picture brightness and film rate, so it uniformly adopts the ISO that is one gear higher than normal, and the shutter safety shutter is set at more than 1/15 second, so the film rate is high. In the indoor lighting environment, you can take bright, clear and beautiful photos, but the performance in outdoor weak light is not satisfactory.
Even though the ISO is only between 800-1000, the image noise is serious and the details are not much. However, the metering and white balance performance of the machine is quite good and very stable.

However, it is a pity that HDR has improved the brightness of the image, but it has failed to improve the discrimination of machine photography, and even some details will be lost due to smearing noise.
In general, Moto X's photography performance is not good. It is hard to fight in the daytime and at night. Its focusing and imaging speed is very high. Its white balance and photometry calibration are good in the daytime, but its weak light and night performance are poor. Compared with the previous generation, it has made some progress, but it still does not meet the expectations of the current flagship camera.

However, it is surprising that the GPU presentation curve of Moto X is not very good, but the actual experience is still smooth, and even the author began to doubt the curve. This may be related to its conscience to put the proportion of the 60 frame smooth line (green line) very high (if Meilan and other machines set the green line position extremely low, the display accuracy will not be high).
For poorly optimized third-party applications, the upper and lower layers from left to right are Tieba, Weibo, Taobao, Apppool, Peapod, and Friends Circle, and the curve rarely breaks the green line. In actual use, it can only be stuck when sliding to the unloaded content.
However, the real optimization problem is the Xiaomi desktop (to be honest, the fake Virgo rice noodle is really not used to the original desktop, although it is really handsome). The Xiaomi system connected with it can't be installed on Android 5.0 in the default ART mode at all
In general, in terms of the smoothness of actual operation, Moto X has a native system bonus. It is not a problem to defeat Xiaomi Note, which is "encumbered" by MIUI, and G3, which is encumbered by 2K screens. Samsung S5 and Huawei Mate7, which are relatively old and not well optimized, are no rivals.
However, there is still a gap (especially in the reaction speed of multi task keys) compared with the smooth ham sausage M8 (which tastes better after being brushed with Android 5.0) at the top of the mobile phone industry. But in the overall ranking, Moto X's fluency is enough to rank top.
compatibility
Android 5.0 is the default and only in ART mode. In actual testing, the Xiaomi system cannot be installed in daily applications. However, even if there is a problem, big name applications will surely follow up on Android 5.0 support soon, so this problem should not be taken into consideration.
However, the compatibility test of the game is not so impressive. Small games without additional data packets such as Temple Escape are not easy to run.
However, Wild Racing 8, Modern War 4, and Shadow Gun cannot be installed. Modern War 5, Top Speed Car 17 flash back after installation. Real Racing 3 can run without pictures. NBA2K13 runs smoothly but some maps are incomplete. Death trigger 2 cannot be connected to the Internet (may be related to the use of the cracked version?).
The test results tell us that if you like to play large games, you should be careful before upgrading Android 5.0.
Endurance
The endurance performance under different use intensities is as follows:
Four hours after downloading, installing and debugging applications under wifi, 65% of the power is lost, equivalent to 16.25% per hour (6.15 hours of endurance), and the dynamic power consumption fluctuates between 12% and 24% per hour.
Under this moderate intensity, the battery temperature has been maintained at about 33 degrees, and the performance is good.
Using the entertainment rabbit, you can run minutes at an extremely high intensity within half an hour. The average hourly power consumption is 30% - 37% (the battery can be exhausted in three hours). At this time, the maximum temperature of the battery has gone to nearly 40 degrees.
Use more reading, clean the background, 50% brightness, wifi environment, about 6% power consumption per hour (16.7 hours), this performance is unexpectedly good. If the black background is used according to the characteristics of screen A, it is estimated that the reading time will be long.
The power consumption per hour fluctuates between 0.3% and 0.57% in the midnight flight mode standby, which is equivalent to the standby time between 7.3 days and 13.9 days. The actual power loss is 4% after 8 hours a night. For flight mode, there are still many power failures. But considering that there are many all-weather standby sensors and semantic processors on the machine, this performance is already good.
The power consumption per hour is about 1.22% when the Wifi is disconnected from the standby of the 4G network (the non root version of the green guard has been turned off, and only WeChat is left in the background), which is equivalent to a pure standby time of about 83 hours (3 and a half days).
Turn on 4G network and wifi standby, and the simulated normal office standby state will consume 1.81% - 2.58% power per hour, 1.6 days (38.7h) - 2.3 days (55h). If the daily commuting time is 10 hours, 18-26% of the power will be lost even if it is not used in a day. However, 20% of the power will be lost in the night of 8 hours, which is 60% of the day
To sum up, the endurance performance of Moto X is not excellent, but it is certainly not bad. It has excellent performance in simple reading items, and its comprehensive performance has exceeded 2300mah battery, 5-inch A screen, and many Galaxy A5s equipped with Snapdragon 410. It's OK to charge once a day for light use, but the power consumption of online standby is high, and you have to charge twice every three days if you don't use the network.
Moto just uses 2300mah batteries to make 2800mah "service time", which is really worth praising, but the wifi and 4G network modules of the machine have high power consumption pressure and low pure standby capacity. As a reference, the Samsung S5 (5.1 inches) and HTC M8 (5 inches) with 2800mah Xshot are only 2600mah (5.2 inches), and their endurance is no less than that of motoX 。
Charging&heating&external volume/sound quality
The combination of motoX's small capacity battery and flash charger is a bit like the LG strategy before G2: the battery is small, but it can ensure you enough for a day, and it can give you a fast charging speed, in exchange for a thinner and lighter body.
After the standard flash charge of the Bank of China version this time, the charging speed of motoX is also surprisingly fast. Flash charging can adjust the charging speed according to the amount of power of the machine. If the power is low, it can use flash charging. When the power is nearly full, it will automatically switch to trickle charging.
Record every 5 minutes, start charging from 18% of the power, and charge 28% in 15 minutes (the official said that charging for 15 minutes can bring 7 hours of power, obviously saying that the standby time is 7 hours...), charge 52% in 38 minutes (to 70%), and the peak speed is more than 106% per hour. However, the charging speed slowed down in the later period, and the last 10% was charged at a trickle speed, which took 27 minutes.
