The full name of NAS is Network Attached Storage, that is, network attached storage. In layman's terms, it is a hard disk that can be connected to the Internet. But in addition to storage and networking, NAS itself can also achieve file management, BT download FTP、 Even the web server and many other functions that need to be completed by PC.
However, the price of NAS is high (starting at 1000 yuan), and the features are geek oriented, which makes it difficult to get started, so the market has not been opened. However, the advanced functions of "unified file management, private file upload, offline download, personal website and FTP server" still haunt many computer players. It seems that without NAS at home, computer history cannot be complete.
Today's OneSpace is a NAS featuring ease of use and function expansion. With a price of 599 yuan (500G hard disk version), it has become one of the most popular NAS solutions available on the market. Now let's take a look at its performance.

Unpacking and accessories
The machine is packed in kraft paper box, with simple product characteristics and specifications on the back.
Accessories include instructions, warranty and power supply.
9V2A power supply, maximum power 18W.
Appearance and workmanship
The appearance design is simple and unusual. The pure white polished shell has a taste of apple.
There are openings for microphone and status light on the lower front, 4 connectors on the back, and a smooth surface on the side.
There is a loudspeaker mesh on the top and a nameplate on the bottom.
From top to bottom on the back, there are 3.5mm headphone interface, USB interface, RJ45 gigabit network cable and power interface.
Interior and Disassembly
Take out the foot pad at the bottom, and you can see the screw hole.
The bottom cover has a hard disk cushion and a dust-proof cooling grille.
After the bottom is opened, 2.5-inch hard disks with different capacities can be directly pulled out/loaded. The official requirement is the standard specification of 9.5mm, and extra gaskets are required for ultra-thin hard disks or SSDs.
The internal circuits are arranged compactly and neatly, and the workmanship is good.
Open the top cover adhered with the fixing glue, you can see the speaker and the dual antenna mentioned in the parameter table.
The bottom of the circuit board is the SATA interface of the hard disk. Because this side is close to the hard disk, there is black insulation and heat dissipation film.
The integration of the machine is very high, but there are still many spare parts inside the shell. If more hard disks can be added to the subsequent models to form an array, it will be more happy.
Operation and use
The official stated goal is to make the professional NAS private cloud easy to use and civilian, and provide five clients at one go, including web side, Windows side, Android side, MacOS, Linux, and wired and wireless links.
Wired connection: the network cable connects OneSpace and the route, and the computer, mobile phone and other devices in the LAN can access the machine with the network address of "onesapce/";
The method of wireless connection is special and interesting. In addition to opening the regular webpage, the machine also supports "voice transmission" of wifi passwords. After the mobile phone client selects the WIFI name and enters the password, the mobile phone will encode the WIFI information into a specific sound, and then aim the speaker at the microphone on the front of OneSpace to complete the WIFI configuration (speaker and microphone are just for this function?)
PC client
Among the clients, the web side has the most functions, followed by the mobile side, while the PC side is essentially a file manager, which is more consistent with the usage habits of Windows users:
Functionally, the software directly includes the file management work on the local and onespace. It supports automatic classification of file types. The files on both sides can be moved, copied, encrypted, or even shared to different onespace sub user spaces (this is a multi account management function, which will be explained in detail later).
Operationally, in addition to the normal right-click menu, you can also drag the target into the window to upload, and support the direct upload of the entire file, but now you can't drag the download (anti cheap?); Both pictures and movies can be opened by double clicking (but they can only be played after the machine caches); Files such as music and PPT will automatically pop up a download window.
In addition to file management, traditional NAS is most concerned about security and speed. Because the official does not open access to the Internet, there is no need to worry about network security, but NAS with a single hard disk cannot rely on the security of the hard disk array. However, OneSpace's Baidu Cloud synchronization function can be used as a backup aid, and you can even choose to synchronize after encryption.
Finally, we are most concerned about the speed: in the complex wifi environment of the office, the upload and download speed of large files can reach 6m/s (10m broadband). Although it is officially announced that there is an optimization for the transmission of small batch files, the upload speed of fragmented files is still quite unexpected. The average file size of 100k folders can still maintain the upload speed of 400-500k/s. With the breakpoint resume function, the upload experience is not a problem.
Large file transfer speed
Fragmented file transfer with an average of less than 100k
In the case of NAS and computer using six types of network cables, which are directly connected to gigabit routing, the speed can even run 50 m/s, and even sporadic files can maintain the upload speed of 10-15 MB/s.
Mobile terminal
In addition to the management, upload and download of onespace files, the mobile terminal is mainly responsible for backup and offline download. The use experience of upload, download and file management functions is very similar to that of online disks.
The functions of file classification viewing, mobile, encryption, and internal user sharing are the same as those of PC and web.
The automatic backup of address book, SMS and photo album is the same as that of online disk. However, because it is local transmission and storage, it is not limited by the 512k/s upload speed curse of telecom broadband, and the file upload speed is directly increased by 10-20 times, giving rise to the unlimited superiority of NAS.
Web side
OneSapce's high-level functions are almost concentrated on the web side, and even the response speed of file management is better than that of PC client, and it also has a file search function with good speed.
Hard disk information and network management: the former can view the parameters, remaining space, temperature and power on time of the hard disk; In addition to modifying wired and wireless parameters, the latter can also be used as a route or WIFI trunk.
Multi user management can add other accounts and allocate different hard disk space for them at any time, which is more suitable for family use. This also gave birth to OneSapce's internal user sharing function. Files between different users are not interconnected and can even be encrypted and shared by themselves.
OneSapce can install plug-in functions like Openwrt, DD wrt and other routing systems. "Offline download, Thunderbolt remote download, PT download, DLNA, Baidu online disk synchronization" and other functions are actually added in the form of plug-ins.
Custom function plug-ins can be installed in the form of apps.
Offline download: After inputting the download link or uploading the seed, the machine can download in the background. The usage is the same as that of Thunderbolt and other download tools. The network speed limit, concurrent number, refresh frequency and partition size can be set by yourself. The download speed can be maintained at 1.8m/s under 20m broadband
For Xunlei Download, after binding the Xunlei account, it will jump to the webpage of Xunlei Remote Download for task addition and file management.
The USB port on the machine can be used to read USB storage devices, connect printers, and even connect cameras when used as a security NVR host (it is still not open for testing). The former can be directly hot swapped and read, while the latter is used to share printers with multiple devices. However, no external network access is available now, so this function is of little significance.
The PT download function is more suitable for campus users. PT can only be downloaded if the account passkey and the seed are available at the same time, and user permissions will be determined according to the amount of user uploads (seed) to encourage users to upload and share. Although there are a few more steps, the actual download speed will have a qualitative leap.
But now many PT stations do not support non campus users to log in. Of course, it's OK to use the address of a junior brother or sister to map, and save the country with curves (laugh).
Baidu Cloud Synchronization is the most needed function for the author. Its use mode is relatively primitive. It needs to set tasks for uploading and downloading, and select the target location for synchronization. In addition, the maximum upload size is 200m, and the maximum download size is 4G. But at least the NAS can automatically synchronize the network disk.
The upload speed of home telecom broadband, which is equivalent to 51.2KB/s, is a huge waste of online disk space, which is also the reason why the major online disks dare to release a few terabytes of storage space. Anyway, if you upload at this speed, you can't upload much in a few months. But if the router can hook up and upload files by itself day and night, there is no need to manually synchronize with the computer.
summary
In terms of performance, 599 also includes the Onespace of hard disk, which is similar to the 1000 yuan NAS. The use experience similar to the network disk is much more humanized than traditional NAS. File management, redundancy identification, automatic compression, hard disk hibernation, offline and BT download, network disk synchronization, WIFI relay DLNA、 Plug in expansion and other common and advanced functions are almost endless.
However, the function boom has also brought some small bugs. Fortunately, the official upgrade is fast, and the related problems are not serious. However, the price and cost constraints have brought about the regret that the hard disk reading indicator is simplified, there is no expansion bit, the wifi goes through the wall, and the anti-interference ability is not strong.
In addition, Onespace also shields Internet access like many NAS. Although this can ensure data security and cut off the risk of iCloud pornographic photos, users who want to access the Internet need to solve the problem through port mapping or DMZ. For beginners, I'm afraid it will be a big project again, and they can only wait for related function plug-ins.
Admittedly, NAS is still an unimportant device for many users even though it is easy to use and user-friendly. However, if you have a high demand for backup, download, and data security, and do not want to waste traditional NAS, Onespace will be a cost-effective entry scheme. If you need more advanced extension functions such as traditional FTP and even web server, you'd better save more advanced equipment on budget.
