Android 5.0 officially began to support 64 bit processors, and the first batch of pre installed new systems were of course the new Nexus 9 and Nexus 6 of Google's "own son" Nexus series. Among them, Nexus 9 is a true 64 bit Android device, which is equipped with NVIDIA's 64 bit Tegra K1 and Android 5.0. Today we also bring you the experience of this tablet:
The Nexus 9 is manufactured by HTC, so we can see some HTC products on the packaging. The packaging is designed with rounded corners, and there is a dark logo of "9" on the front. The Nexus 6 also has a similar design.
The front of the Nexus 9 is on the back.
When you open the top cover of the package, you can see the Nexus 9 protected with frosted film.
The Nexus 9 uses an 8.9-inch screen with a resolution of 2048 * 1536, which is the same as the iPad in terms of resolution. The screen ratio is 4:3, which is very different from the 16:10 commonly used for Android tablets. We can already imagine another disaster in application adaptation
The Nexus 9 uses the Boomsound dual speakers commonly used by HTC on mobile phones, but the appearance on the tablet is slightly different. There is a 1.6 million front camera below the speaker above.
There is another speaker below. When we use it horizontally, the speakers on both sides can play a certain stereo effect.
Like Nexus 7 and Nexus 10, the back of Nexus 9 also uses a skin like coating, which feels very textured.
The rear 8 megapixel camera is equipped with a LED fill light, which is already a "high configuration" for a tablet.
The logo of Nexus on the back.
The logo of HTC, the foundry of Nexus 9, is very low-key.
The Nexus 9 is also the first Nexus series flat panel to use a metal frame. The metal frame uses a wire drawing process, with an injection molded partition layer on the top and a 3.5mm earphone interface beside it.
There is a micro USB interface at the bottom.
The buttons on the right side of the fuselage are the power button and volume button.
Two tablets using Tegra K1, Nexus 9 (bottom) and Shield Tablet (top). Nexus 9 uses 64 bit Tegra K1 with dual core Denver core, while Shield Tablet uses 32-bit Tegra K1 with quad core Cortex-A15 core.
Both of them have skin like coatings on the back, but the Nexus 9 is much more delicate.
The second layer of packaging is related instructions and accessories.
The accessories are very simple. A power adapter and a data cable are described in Hong Kong. Since we got the Hong Kong version Nexus 9, the power adapter is a British plug, and the charging power supply is 1.5A, which is a bit "stingy".
Nexus 9 adopts Android 5.0 system, which is also the first true 64 bit product. Its dual core Tegra K1 is also a 64 bit SoC. Android 5.0 also fully supports the features of 64 bit processors.
Native Android 5.0 still adheres to the design of the secondary menu. Clicking the secondary menu icon is a bit like a huge "folder", and you can still see the wallpaper on the desktop.
The drop-down bar combines notification and shortcut switches.
Multi task management adopts card display, which is similar to the tag in Chrome.
The setting menu is mainly gray and white, with green icons, which is "small and fresh".
The Android version is 5.0 and the kernel is 3.10.40.
Since Android 5.0 has been completely converted to ART mode, there will be no corresponding options in the developer options.
The style of power display is also much fresher.
The built-in music playing application can see that the top bar in Android 5.0 will change color according to the content below, but there will also be color difference.
In the clock and alarm settings interface, you can also see that the color of the top bar is darker, which is certainly more beautiful than the pure black one before.
The built-in calendar application.
It has its own office application similar to Excel.
The Nexus 9 is somewhat similar to the Xiaomi tablet because of the "wonderful" resolution and the long-standing application adaptation problems of the high-resolution Android tablet. Both have encountered a serious "application shortage". Let's take a few examples:
In the HD version of Sina News client, the content display is barely acceptable, but the setting menu is not fully displayed.
Sina Weibo, a "long-standing and difficult" microblog, has too small characters and buttons to use.
On the contrary, it is better to use the mobile version of Weibo.
Taobao HD has been continuously updated, so the display effect of this client is good, which is not far behind the iPad version.
App Bao HD is also continuously updated, so the display effect is also good.
The game is not a big problem. Most of the games can be played normally, but some games do not support immersive full screen, so the virtual key is still a bit eyesore.
With the built-in Chrome, it is certainly not a problem to display web pages.
From the above simple play, we can see that the application problem of the high-resolution Android tablet is relatively serious, and the application resources with the "HD" suffix are still too few.
Nexus 9 uses a Tegra K1 2.5GHz dual core Denver core, which is a CPU core independently developed by NVIDIA, supporting 64 bits and ARMv8 instruction set. Like Tegra K1 in the quad core A15 version, the GPU is based on the Kepler kernel, with 192 ALUs.
We also conducted relevant performance tests on the Nexus 9. The total score of Anthare in the evaluation of 5.2 was quite high, and the multitasking score in the user experience performance was a bit scary. Although the resolution is very high, the Nexus 9's 3D drawing score also exceeded 20000 thanks to the powerful performance of the GPU.
Geekbench 3, The single core score of more than 2000 is also the highest among the devices we have tested. It is more powerful than the iPad Air 2, and it is also the best among Android devices. The multi-core score is not eye-catching.
PCMark for Android, The total score is also surprisingly high, even more powerful than the eight core Exynos 5433 (32-bit system).
From the graph, the CPU frequency of Nexus 9 is not very stable, and the frequency is not high during the test.
GFXBench 3, We used the Offscreen test in the high stress test, and the results were similar to the four core Tegra K1 on the Shield Tablet. It seems that the graphics processing performance of the two versions of Tegra K1 is the same.
Pi is 10 million bits, and the Nexus 9 only achieved nearly 30 seconds, which is not very ideal.
In the MP4 video soft solution test of 1080P ref15 60FPS, the average frame number is about 51. During the test, the CPU frequency of Nexus 9 does not reach 2.5GHz, which fluctuates between 2.1GHz and 2.3GHz. This screenshot also shows that when we play the 16:9 video, the Nexus 9 screen will leave a large black area at the top and bottom.
GBA simulator test, the number of frames is very eye-catching, more than 380 frames of results significantly ahead of other competitors, we have tested the device, the second place iPad Air 2 only about 330 frames. During the test, the CPU frequency of the Nexus 9 is only 2.3GHz. If it can reach 2.5GHz, it is expected to exceed 400 frames.
The photographing options and settings of Nexus 9 are very simple, and only supports some resolution adjustments.
The rear camera of Nexus 9 is 8 million pixels, with F2.4 aperture (the information in EXIF is wrong). The pixels in the panel are relatively high, and the actual photographing effect is acceptable.
For the detailed test of Nexus 9, please continue to pay attention to our evaluation.
