Is $649 worth it? Nexus 6 evaluation
Is $649 worth it? Nexus 6 evaluation

When the price of Nexus 6 was announced this year, the whole audience was in an uproar. The price of up to $649 was far higher than that of the previous generation Nexus 5. Even as an enlarged version of the new Moto X, the price was too expensive. As for whether the Nexus 6 was worth the price, this review needs to tell everyone.

After abandoning LG, Google chose Motorola. This time, Motorola's design is similar to the new version of Moto X, but it is much larger. The Nexus series mobile phones themselves are not a mother. So from the Nexus One from HTC to the Nexus 6 from Motorola, their appearance is not family, and it is not Google's fault.

Appearance design:

The Nexus 6 is manufactured by Motorola, so it is inevitably branded by Motorola on the appearance. The overall design idea is the same as that of the new Moto X, that is, the Nexus has the same metal frame as the new Moto X, and the curved back. This design also makes the Nexus 6 feel special and comfortable in its hands, In addition, his son's Pug and Motorola's exquisite workmanship, at least in appearance and workmanship, are like an expensive mobile phone.

As for the firmness, I can rest assured in this respect. One time I accidentally dropped the Nexus 6 from a height of about 1.3 meters onto the iron plate of the escalator. The Nexus 6 just had small scars on the metal frame. In addition, everything was in good condition.

If there is any difference between the Nexus 6 and the Moto X, it must be the size. The 5.9-inch screen even exceeds Samsung's Note series and iPhone 6 Plus. This size is considerable even as a cross-border mobile phone, and the plastic back also makes the 6 very slippery, which makes us have to be more careful in daily use. After all, the mobile phone is hard, It is not as hard as the earth (except Nokia).

In terms of the peripheral design of the fuselage, the Nexus 6 is no different from MOTO X. It is commendable that Motorola has also adjusted the position of the fuselage buttons of the 6, making it relatively easy to operate with one hand.

The double speakers on the front of the Nexus 6 body must be praised. My brother Moto X only has speakers on the bottom of the front, which is an improvement we appreciate very much.

In terms of camera, the Nexus 6 does not use the same 21 megapixel camera as the Droid Turbo. This $649 mobile phone only uses a 13 megapixel camera. Although it has dual flash lights, a large aperture of F/2.0 and optical anti shake, this parameter is not very competitive at present.

Screen:

In terms of screen resolution, Nexus 6 is obviously sincere. In addition to the 2K resolution, it also uses an expensive AMOLED screen. The 493 ppi is enough to satisfy all picky eyes and provides an ultra delicate display effect. Even when viewed very close, it is difficult to distinguish a single pixel.

In addition, the color temperature of this screen is 6550K, which is only one step away from the standard 6500K. This color temperature means that the white display of the Nexus 6 is accurate enough, and will not be warmer or cooler. In contrast, AMOLED also has a natural advantage, with a gamma value of 1.94.

In terms of visual angle, the performance of AMOLED screen is naturally good.

However, this screen has so many advantages. Here are the disadvantages:

First of all, the brightness of this screen is very urgent. The peak brightness measured by us is only 270 nits, which is much lower than the 385 nits of MOTO X. Compared with the 468 nits of Note 4 of the same 2K resolution AMOLED screen, this performance is simply not good. As for the performance of 500 or 600 nits of LCD screen, the brightness of Nexus 6 is simply not worth mentioning.

In terms of color accuracy, Nexus 6 inherits the feature of color oversaturation of AMOLED screen, and the displayed color is obviously more colorful than the actual color, but fortunately, each color is just moving towards a more saturated direction, and the balance between colors is good. As for oversaturation, it is not necessarily a bad thing for some people.

Charging and endurance:

The battery capacity of Nexus 6 is 32 20 mAh, which happens to be the same as the battery capacity of the main competitor Samsung Note 4 (Note 4 national travel users don't cry). Motorola claims that the endurance of the Nexus 6 allows users to use 24 hours or 10 hours of uninterrupted video playback and LTE web browsing.

In our test, the Nexus 6 performed fairly well. The 3G call time was 25 hours, the web browsing time was close to 8 hours, and the video playback time was 10 hours. The comprehensive evaluation score was 70 hours, which means that the Nexus 6 can persist for two full days under moderate daily use.

In terms of charging, the Nexus 6 has generously built in a wireless charging module and supports Qualcomm's fast charging 2.0 technology. Motorola claims that 15 minutes of fast charging will allow the Nexus 6 to last 8 hours. Thanks to the fast charging technology, the charging time of the Nexus 6 from 0 to 100 is 98 minutes, which is excellent.

Performance:

The performance of each generation of Nexus mobile phone will never disappoint the audience. This time, the Nexus 6 is no exception. The Nexus 6 uses the Snapdragon 805 chipset, Qualcomm's strongest processor at present. Not only that, Motorola has also matched it with 3GB RAM. The latest Android 5.0 system can fully play the hardware performance of Nexus 6.

The CPU of the Snapdragon 805 on the Nexus 6 is Krait 400 architecture and adopts the 28 nm HPm process of TSMC, The maximum main frequency has reached 2.7GHz, and this CPU will also be the swan song of Krait architecture. Android 5.0's support for 64 bits has not been reflected on Nexus 6. On the GPU side, Qualcomm's Adreno 420 has a maximum main frequency of 600MHz, which is the same as other mobile phones using Snapdragon 805 processors.

Undoubtedly, the Nexus 6 is one of the Android phones with the strongest performance on the market at present. Its powerful processing power and light system make the Nexus 6 run fast. The default mode of ART also makes the Nexus 6 one of the most fluent phones at present.

Photographs and videos:

In terms of cameras, the Nexus 6, a 13 million pixel camera sensor, is from Sony and its model is IMX214. Motorola has equipped the sensor with a F/2.0 aperture and an optical anti shake lens. In addition, there are dual LED fill lights. Under the lock screen interface, there is a shortcut to directly open the camera application for taking photos.

Swipe into the screen from the left side of the photographing interface to open the photographing mode menu. The photographing mode of the NEXUS 6 is very simple, but the most basic photographing functions are available, including panoramic photos, spherical photos and lens blur.

The small option button next to the shutter button opens to see the switches of HDR+, grid, flash, etc.

In the detailed settings, the Nexus 6's rear camera can take a maximum of 13 million pixels of 4:3 photos. Of course, there are also 16:9 photos. As for the front camera, it has reached 2.1 million pixels, which is enough.

According to the photo samples, the performance of Nexus 6 is excellent. In a bright environment, the details of the picture are very rich, the color rendering is in place, the contrast is good, the whole picture looks comfortable, and the dynamic range performance is medium.

The brightness of the built-in double LED fill light is also high enough, at least wider than that of most competitors.

In terms of panoramic photos, the resolution performance of Nexus 6 is far from that of the strongest, just 10 million pixel photos. Fortunately, after the photos are magnified, they have good detail performance, and the picture combination is relatively natural.

In terms of video shooting, the Nexus 6 can shoot 4K videos at most. The image color and detail performance are very good. The built-in optical anti shake can also filter out a lot of hand shaking. However, the Nexus 6 only has a mono channel when shooting videos, which does not match its price.

Audio output:

In terms of audio output, the Nexus 6 has pretty good parameters, but unfortunately, the interference between various modules in the Nexus 6 body is very serious, resulting in poor overall sound quality. Otherwise, the sound quality of the Nexus 6 is good.

In general, the sound quality of the Nexus 6 is somewhat similar to that of "a mouse's excrement spoils a pot of porridge". The excellent performance in some aspects has been delayed by a small deficiency, which also makes the sound quality of the Nexus 6 a notch lower than that of mainstream flagship mobile phones. It's a pity.

Summary:

The Nexus 6 is a turning point of the Nexus series, which has returned from the cost performance route to the high-end boutique route. In addition to being a mobile phone, the Nexus series mobile phones are also Google's Android experience doors for people, while the experience of Android 5.0 is a new level.

The system is a system, but when it comes to the mobile phones that carry this system, we have to let go of our feelings and face many practical problems. On the Nexus 6, an inevitable topic is the price. The price of $649 is really surprising. You know, many people will have the idea that the next Nexus should not be too expensive when they see the Nexus 5, As a result, the price of Nexus 6 must be a sound of "sleeping trough".

However, the price of the Nexus 6 still stands up to scrutiny. First of all, the screen, both in size and resolution, has reached the top level at present. In addition, the strongest Qualcomm processor, wireless charging, and very solid materials and workmanship. Google can be forgiven for setting this price for the Nexus 6, In addition, the Nexus 6 will be sold to all operators (the Nexus 5 will only be sold in T-MOBILE in the United States). Maybe Google wants to use the Nexus 6 to launch an official attack on the currently booming high-end mobile phone market.

Compared with its main competitors Note 4 and iPhone 6 Plus, the Nexus 6 is actually cheaper, and it also has a son aura bonus. But as a cross-border device, The Nexus 6 has not made any optimization for the large screen. It does not have a single hand mode like the iPhone, nor productivity tools like Samsung S-Pen. The Note 4, which costs $100 more than it, has better photo and video capabilities, longer endurance, and more hardware functions (infrared transmitter, SD card slot expansion, etc.) Note 4 is obviously better and more practical as a tablet phone.

advantage:

It is far more sophisticated than Nexus 4 and 5;

QHD screen, super delicate;

The lollipop system provides multi-user switching function;

The photo effect is good;

Front dual speakers.

Disadvantages:

Not optimized for large screen;

The fuselage is very slippery;

The screen brightness is too low;

The focusing speed is too slow when recording.
