On the afternoon of December 14, OPPO officially released its first self-developed chip, Mariana MariSilicon X.

OPPO, a Mariana MariSilicon X NPU chip with image processing function, adopts TSMC's 6nm process technology. Its built-in MariNeuro AI processing unit has a computing power of up to 18 TOPS (int 8). It claims to exceed the A15 AI computing power (15.8 TOPS) carried by the iPhone 13 Pro Max, and its computing power per watt in terms of energy efficiency reaches 11.6 TOPS.

In addition to AI performance, Mariana MariSilicon X also integrates MariLumi image processing unit, which supports the processing of 20bit RAW and 4K Ultra HDR video, with a picture light ratio of up to 1000000:1. At the same time, it also specially optimizes the processing performance of RGBW sensors (meaning that it may be used with some customized RGBW CMOS in the future), It claims that it can improve the signal to noise ratio by 8.6 dB and the resolution by 1.7 times at most.

Mariana MariSilicon X adopts a double-layer storage architecture and integrates a dedicated on-chip memory subsystem for the AI processing unit. The independent DDR bandwidth can provide up to 8.5GB/s of dedicated bandwidth for each IP in the chip.

It can be seen that the starting point and complexity of this self-developed chip brought by OPPO this time is not low. In addition to the lack of CPU and GPU, this chip also has a little SoC rudiment in architecture.

The Mariana MariSilicon X OPPO will not end with the release of a PPT. The official said that the flagship of the new generation Find X series (traditionally the Find X4 series) released in the first quarter of next year will be carried.
