IDC, a market research organization, recently released the global shipment data of wearable devices in the third quarter of 2021.

IDC data shows that in the third quarter, the global shipment of wearable smart devices reached 138.4 million units, with a year-on-year growth of 9.9%, of which earwear devices (mainly TWS headphones) accounted for 64.7% (an increase of 26.5%), and wrist wearable devices (including smart watches and bracelets) accounted for 34.7%.

From the shipping data of major manufacturers, Apple ranked first, with 39.8 million units shipped in the quarter, mainly from AirPods and Beats headphones, a year-on-year decrease of 3.6%. It is worth mentioning that Apple's sales in this field accounted for 53% of the whole market; Samsung, which ranked second, shipped 12.7 million units, up 13.8% year on year.

Xiaomi, which often ranked the second before, experienced a sharp decline in the third quarter, with a 23.8% year-on-year decrease in shipments. IDC said this was mainly because consumers' demand preference gradually turned to smart watches, while Xiaomi's shipments mainly relied on bracelets; Different from the sharp contraction of the mobile phone business due to the impact of sanctions, Huawei's shipment of wearable devices still grew by 3.7% in the third quarter, reaching 10.9 million units, mainly relying on the growth of earphones.
