IDC, a market research organization, recently released the shipment data of the global tablet market in the third quarter of 2021.
IDC reports that the global tablet computer shipments in the third quarter reached 42.3 million, down 9.4% year on year. This is the first decline in the tablet market since the outbreak of the epidemic, driven by the demand for remote office and online courses for five consecutive quarters of growth. In addition to the gradual relaxation of epidemic control measures in some regions, It is also because the continuous growth in the previous quarters has led to the gradual saturation of market demand.
IDC believes that despite the slowdown in demand, it is expected that the commercial use of tablets in vertical fields such as logistics, healthcare and banking will continue.
In terms of manufacturers, Apple shipped 14.7 million units in the third quarter, up 4.6% from last year; Samsung shipped 7.5 million units, down 11.1% year on year; Amazon shipped 4.7 million units, down 13.3% year on year; Lenovo shipped 4.3 million units, a slight increase of 2.1% year on year.
Huawei's shipments in the third quarter affected by the sanctions were 2.3 million units, down 45.9% year on year (compared with the data of the same period last year, which does not include the Glory brand, and after adding the Glory, the decline expanded to 53.1% year on year). Although Huawei is still able to get 4G SoC chips from Qualcomm, and the MatePad 11 and other products currently on sale also use Snapdragon chips, the impact of sanctions on tablet shipments is still very obvious.
