On September 28, the official website of the USB-IF Association officially announced the USB Type-C 2.1 standard, and the upper limit of power supply for USB PDs was raised from 100W to 240W.
USB Type-C 2.1 standard will be finalized in May 2021. The core improvement is that the upper limit of power supply of USB PD protocol will be raised from 100W (20V 5A) to 240W (48V 5A), and the corresponding wire material requirements will also be raised from SPR (standard power range) to EPR (extended power range).
The full name of EPR is Extended Power Range, which is required to withstand 50V 5A current, while the withstand voltage of internal cables is required to be raised to above 53.65V, and the minimum withstand voltage of internal electrical components is required to be above 63V.
People always think that the power supply limit of port C is 100W, but in fact, what people often say about port C is just the interface form. Previously, domestic manufacturers have used port C to achieve 120W fast charging, but all of them are private agreements achieved through explosive modification.
The significance of USB Type-C 2.1 standard is to unify the charging interface of mid-range game book with power below 240W, so that they do not have to drag a large "brick adapter", and can also be used for mobile phones and other devices, which is environmentally friendly.
