IQOO 8 Pro experience evaluation: Blue Factory's flagship with strong stacking
IQOO 8 Pro experience evaluation: Blue Factory's flagship with strong stacking
2022-08-25 18:18

Not long ago, Vivo's sub brand iQOO brought its latest flagship product iQOO 8 Pro in the second half of the year, with a starting price of 4999 yuan, which is different from the previous single selling points, such as focusing on the performance of e-sports or charging 100 watts fast, The iQOO 8 Pro has piled up materials in all aspects, including the screen, camera and charging. It seems that it wants to build a bucket flagship that covers all aspects, which also makes us look forward to the actual performance of this mobile phone.

Before starting the evaluation, let's take a picture to understand the general specifications of iQOO 8 Pro:

appearance

The front panel of iQOO 8 Pro uses the design of center punching+micro curved screen. The screen is covered with a high transmittance film when it leaves the factory. The overall contour of the machine is more square than that of other curved screen models.

The top and bottom borders of the phone are straight, so they can stand directly on the desktop.

Since last year, IQOO gradually dropped the bright and cool style of e-sports at the beginning of the brand and game oriented design such as virtual shoulder keys, which is obvious on iQOO 8 Pro. If it wasn't for the iQOO logo on the back, I might even think it was an orthodox flagship of vivo: after all, the cloud level design of the rear camera module is obviously a treatment of vivo, In addition, the back cover of the track version in our hands is made of black plain leather with carbon fiber texture. Compared with the legendary version with red, black and blue stripes and a sense of speed, the track version has a sense of flagship stability.

At the same time, the carbon fiber textured back cover also makes the iQOO 8 Pro's bare machine feel better. It is neither fingerprint stained nor as slippery as some AG glass. With a weight of about 202g, it has a good grip.

Screen&fingerprint unlocking

In the past two years, the European and Canadian series (OnePlus/OPPO) is the first domestic manufacturer to attach importance to the quality of the screen. It was the first to focus on the selling points of 2K high brush OLED (including the promotion of flexible OLED straight screen), and then this year's Xiaomi. Since Xiaomi 11, it has also launched 2K 120Hz E4 AMOLED. However, Vivo seems to have a good enough attitude towards the screen before. Although it also has a high refresh rate, its absolute quality is not top.

However, this time iQOO 8 Pro unexpectedly piled up the screen specifications directly, including 2K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, the first E5 light-emitting material, LTPO adaptive refresh rate, and native 10 bit color depth, all of which are the top parameters that can be accessed at present.

The measured maximum brightness of this screen in manual full white is 462 nits. At this time, the brightness of four corners of the screen is 467/470/467/485 nits respectively, and the maximum brightness of local area is 537 nits; In terms of excitation brightness, it can reach 914 nits in the full white picture, and 1268 nits in the local peak brightness, which exceeds the peak of 1212 nits in Xiaomi 11 with E4 screen.

Three color modes are provided in the system settings - standard, professional and gorgeous. The specific performance is as follows:

(iQOO 8 Pro standard mode P3 gamut coverage)

The color temperature in the default standard mode is 7099K, covering 132.8% of the sRGB color gamut and 97.8% of the P3 color gamut. The average gray scale deviation is 4, and the average color deviation in the P3 color gamut is 2.6 (maximum 6.9);

(iQOO 8 Pro professional mode color standard)

The color temperature of professional mode is 6309K, covering 97.1% sRGB color gamut and 71.5% P3 color gamut. The average gray scale deviation is 2.3. The average color deviation under sRGB color gamut is 1.8 (maximum 3.2). The color accuracy performance is good, but it is not suitable for daily use because the appearance is obviously too warm and the color is too faint;

The color temperature of Brilliant mode is 7126K, covering 145% sRGB and 99.3% P3 gamut, with an average gray scale deviation of 4.6 and an average color deviation of 4 (maximum 6).

This screen also supports DC like dimming, but the switch is hidden in the developer options.

On the whole, this screen is the first tier of this year's flagship in terms of fineness, brightness and color rendering, and it is also an important support for the premium of iQOO 8 Pro. The shortcoming is that the software is still conservative in optimizing the high refresh rate. Video (except YouTube), music, and takeaway apps will still lock 60Hz in 120Hz mode, resulting in a fragmented experience.

After talking about the screen, let's talk about an important selling point of iQOO 8 Pro - ultrasonic 3D wide area fingerprint. In fact, it is Qualcomm's 3D Sonic Max ultrasonic fingerprint scheme under the screen. Sharp AQUOS R6 used this scheme before, and iQOO should be the first mobile phone brand in China to use ultrasonic wide area fingerprint.

First of all, compared with the optical screen fingerprint and capacitive fingerprint scheme that requires more than ten times of sampling to complete the entry, the iQOO 8 Pro's set of ultrasonic fingerprint can complete the entry only by pressing once, which is quite novel and comfortable.

Of course, fingerprint entry is not a high-frequency scene (after all, it is only once again difficult to enter). In daily use, Another feature of the iQOO 8 Pro fingerprint solution is the so-called wide area - that is, the identification area is large, so it is not necessary to search the identification area more accurately like the fingerprint under the optical screen. The finger can be unlocked even if it is placed on the edge of the identification circle. The measured blind solution without looking at the screen has a high power, but the success rate of wet hand unlocking that I had hoped for before is still not high, Unlocking speed is not different from optical fingerprint.

(iQOO 8 Pro fingerprint identification area can quickly start Alipay/WeChat payment code and scan it)

The expanded fingerprint identification area also allows iQOO 8 Pro to derive some new playing methods, such as setting one side of the identification area as a payment code or a quick start button for scanning, so that after successful identification, you can directly enter the corresponding interface; You can also set WeChat and Alipay fingerprint payment to double finger verification.

performance

In terms of configuration, the flagship standard three piece set in the second half of the year: Snapdragon 888+, LPDDR5 memory, and UFS 3.1 flash memory. From the run point, there is almost no difference between the performance of Snapdragon 888+and 888, which can be said to be the generation with the smallest upgrade rate among the flagship changes of Snapdragon 8 Series over the years. The specific score and theoretical performance data are as follows:

CPU

GPU

Flash Memory

At the same time, we also ran two games, "Peace Elite" and "Original God" (test at 23.8 ℃, open Monster mode):

Elite of Peace unlocks HDR HD picture quality+90 frame mode, with an average of 89.6 frames in a 30 minute round, 1.4 fluctuations, and basically very stable frame rate curve.

The more stressed "Original Spirit" has a maximum picture quality of 60 frames, mainly because of some fights interspersed in the middle of the run. After 20 minutes, the average is 51.1 frames. It can be seen that eight minutes before the start, the frame rate is basically stable at 55 to 60 frames, but after that, the whole frame rate becomes a little strained due to the temperature rise, and begins to fluctuate again and again.

Of course, the iQOO 8 Pro, like the previous iQOO Neo5, is equipped with a display chip that can be used to insert frames into games. After the function of inserting frames is enabled, the original god will render at 45 frames and then insert frames into 90 frames for display. To some extent, it is equivalent to obtaining a fluency similar to 90 frames with the relatively low power consumption of 45 frames, but the operation will be slightly delayed at this time, It can be regarded as a solution for the hot 888 models to enjoy the original God.

The iQOO 8 Pro adopts the main length wide three camera scheme, and there is no culling lens:

  • Main camera: 50 million pixels IMX766V, 1/1.56 inch bottom, f/1.75, micro pan tilt anti shake

  • Ultra wide angle 48 megapixel IMX598, 1/2 inch bottom, f/2.2

  • Portrait telephoto 16 million pixels S5K3P9, f/2.23, 2.5 times optical zoom, supporting optical anti shake

It can be seen that the photo of iQOO 8 Pro has obvious advantages in stone carving details.

There is not much difference between the two models in the font details of the signboard. The iQOO 8 Pro has heavy sharpening marks.

Compared with the performance of night scene mode in dim mode, this group has no difference in detail resolution, but iQOO 8 Pro has some noise, and the picture purity is not ideal.

The overall exposure and tolerance of these two mobile phones are very close, but iQOO 5 Pro dominates the details and purity.

On the whole, iQOO 8 Pro continues Vivo's always bright and pleasing imaging style. Automatic HDR synthesis is more active during the day, and there is still room for optimization of the purity of the night scene.

Charging&endurance&others

(120W fast charging head standard for iQOO 8 Pro)

In the second half of last year, various companies began to launch their own hundred watt fast charging schemes, and iQOO was undoubtedly one of the brands that invested the fastest in this area. The iQOO 5 Pro was the first to carry 120W wired fast charging. By the time iQOO 8 series was the third generation model that used 120W fast charging, and this time, the battery capacity of iQOO 8 Pro was finally upgraded from 4000mAh, which was criticized as being too small, to 4500mAh, It has reached a relatively sufficient level.

The measured iQOO 8 Pro starts charging from 1%, and can be charged to 36% in 5 minutes, 66% in 10 minutes, and 92% in 15 minutes. It only takes 18 minutes to fully charge, which undoubtedly belongs to the level of the first echelon of mobile phone wired fast charging.

At the beginning of the charging process, the maximum power reaches 96W, but it will drop after a few seconds. Most of the first five minutes remain in the range of 80 to 85W, accompanied by a short-term fluctuation to 66W. From the fifth minute to the twelfth minute, most of the time remains in the range of 66W to 71W. The charging power in the fourth gear of the second half is still 58 to 60W, The actual peak power of the iQOO 8 Pro is higher than the 65/66W class fast charge of many friends. The continuous high power output also guarantees the iQOO 8 Pro's absolute 0 to 100% charging time and fast charging capacity in a short time.

At the same time, the iQOO 8 Pro also supports 50W wireless charging this time - it is also the first model of the vivo series model that supports wireless charging. It is measured that the mobile phone is charged from 1% (connected to 120W head), charged to 29% in 10 minutes, 80% in 30 minutes, and fully charged in 40 minutes. At the beginning, the online peak power can reach 50.2W, lasting for more than three minutes, and the second gear is stable at 34 to 36W, The second half of the circuit fluctuates from 26 to 40 W, and maintains a relatively high power until the charge is cut off.

In terms of endurance, according to Love to play computer games In the 2.5 hour endurance test of five projects, the remaining power is 69%, which is the same as the two recently released Xiaomi MIX 4 and Glory Magic3 Pro models of Snapdragon 888+, and is above the average among the tested models; However, in the actual experience, when 2K 120Hz is fully open, the power consumption is still fast.

In other aspects, the iQOO 8 Pro is equipped with an X-axis linear motor, but it is not a dual motor that serves games like the iQOO 8, and the vibration feedback tuning is satisfactory; The dual speakers are asymmetric earphones with dual loudspeakers, which is low in loudness.

summary

In fact, we all know from the parameters that iQOO 8 Pro is a good product in all aspects. Just the 2K 120Hz E5 screen, ultrasonic fingerprint and 120W fast charge, the three points with strong perception, can almost ensure that the next year will be at least at the leading level, and the actual performance is really not disappointing.

In the second half of the year, however, considering that either the company has no plan to launch a new flagship, or a design oriented flagship like the Xiaomi MIX 4, which is not fully stocked (screen and camera have some choices), there is a certain dislocation in positioning. The products at the same price can compete with the iQOO 8 Pro, and the Xiaomi 11 Pro and One Plus 9 Pro are also relatively comfortable as a new machine competition environment. It can be said that until the model carrying the next generation Snapdragon flagship SoC is launched, the iQOO 8 Pro is a product worth recommending in the 5000 yuan gear.
