After the mobile phone enters the era of full screen, although there are compromise solutions such as Liu Haiping, water drop screen and hole digging screen, the true full screen display effect without holes has always been the ultimate pursuit of manufacturers and some users.

In order to achieve true full screen, manufacturers have tried many things before, including the popular lift camera scheme two years ago, the flip camera scheme represented by Samsung Galaxy A80 and Asus Zenfone 6, the slide cover scheme represented by Xiaomi MIX 3 and Glory Magic2, and even the front and rear dual screen scheme. The core is to hide the front camera.

The reason why the mainstream full screen design has returned to the hole digging screen in the last year is that the above true full screen scheme has defects in the structural design of mobile phones, especially now mobile phones require larger batteries, larger linear motors, as well as the stacking of cooling components and 5G RF antenna systems, and in consideration of the need to be as thin as possible, The existence of mechanical structure is obviously not conducive to component stacking and lightweight design. The under screen camera, which does not use mechanical structure and can ensure the integrity of the screen, has become the highly anticipated ultimate solution for full screen.

But I didn't expect that ZTE was the first to apply the underscreen camera technology to mass production models, which was still silent in the previous two years, and ZTE has achieved the second generation without the release of other mass production underscreen front camera models. Recently, we also got the Axon 30 screen front camera phone just released by ZTE to see how this generation of products perform.

Appearance

To be honest, getting the first glimpse of the bright screen of the Axon 30 is not as shocking as the whole full screen when the lift camera phone was released three years ago. After all, we have seen too many real full screen phones from the flagship to the thousand yuan price range in the past three years, but this year's front of the Axon 30, which is full of holes, is still a clean stream.

The Axon 30 has a compromise on the texture of the whole machine. For example, it uses a plastic body, and there is a step transition between the screen and the middle frame. However, considering that it is a model of more than 2000 yuan, we can't expect too much.  

The back is a rectangular camera module+double ring design, which is slightly similar to the design of Huawei and Glory next door, but not so abrupt.

Due to the conventional structural design, the Axon 30 is very suitable in terms of thickness and weight (189g, 7.8mm). What was unexpected is that the size of the mobile phone is relatively large. The 6.92-inch screen is a circle larger than the mainstream high-end models. Users with smaller hands may not be able to control it.

Since it is one of the few off screen camera models, I have to talk about the display effect of the Axon 30, which should also be a concern of many people. In order to balance the screen display and self portrait effect (ensure the light transmittance), ZTE Axon 30's underscreen camera area and other areas of the screen are actually made into two screens. The subpixel arrangement of the underscreen camera area is the same as other areas, but the pixel shape is different. The main screen area is rectangular, while the underscreen area is circular, and the size is significantly smaller.

In the actual appearance, a rectangular bright spot area with obvious differences can be seen at the top under the white background, which is the location of the camera under the screen. The existence of the camera under the screen can also be found by tilting a certain angle when the screen is stopped or displayed in black. In addition, it can be said that it is difficult to detect display differences in other color images (good experience for watching full screen video). As long as you do not deliberately look at the top area of the screen to find differences, the Axon 30 screen will not make you "play" in most cases.

In terms of screen quality, the maximum brightness of all white manual is 448 nits, and the color temperature in the default standard mode is 7450K, covering 131% sRGB and 96% P3 color gamut; In terms of color standard performance, the average △ E of P3 color gamut in standard mode is 2.7, the average △ E of P3 color gamut in gorgeous mode is 2.3, and the average △ E of soft mode corresponding to sRGB color gamut is 2.9.

The screen supports a 120Hz refresh rate. The high brush adaptation of daily applications is good. Some video applications such as station B and iQIYI that lock 60Hz on some models can also maintain 120Hz operation.

Unfortunately, this time, the sub pixels of the Axon 30 screen are still arranged in RGB Delta, and the fineness of text content is not as good as that of the drill screen (perhaps because of the font, the perception is not so obvious).

ZTE Axon 30 uses Snapdragon 870 SoC, which is a popular configuration of the mid end sub flagship at 2000 yuan this year. Endurance&Charging

During the charging process, the maximum output is 34W, and then it is stabilized in the range of 24 to 27W for a long time.

Compared with the customized system of friends, the MyOS on the Axon 30 may not be a familiar existence in the aircraft circle (after all, it was released in the first half of this year, originally called MiFavor), so it is necessary to make a brief statement.

My first impression of MyOS is that it is light and fast. There are not many built-in and pre installed applications in the system. There is no problem with the overall smoothness of the screen with a 120Hz refresh rate; The interface style is also relatively young, and the colorful collocation effect of high color is used in many parts of the interface; There are theme functions, but the systems of major manufacturers are relatively scarce in theme resources. As for the streaming desktop function introduced in the first half of the press conference, which is somewhat like OriginOS Huarong Grid, it has not been actually installed on the current system.

In terms of functions, MyOS, a small window function that has been followed up by various companies in the past two years, has not fallen behind. One is a hover window that can open any application freely by calling out from the sidebar, and the other is a small window that can quickly respond to chat messages in the horizontal screen state; And there are also screen recognition, voice assistant, application separation, information screen dynamic effect/signature, game space, privacy protection.

After a short experience, it is worth improving the calling logic of some functions. For example, the game space cannot be found in the settings and desktop. Only when the game application is opened for the first time will the call be prompted, and only in the game space can the scheduling mode of CPU and GPU be changed.

Finally, the Axon 30 is equipped with a rotor motor and a single speaker. Touch feedback and external display experience are almost meaningless. Considering the flagship Axon 30 Ultra is equipped with a linear motor and dual speakers, this wave may be based on cost control considerations.

If you look at it as an ordinary mobile phone, ZTE Axon 30 is not very excellent as a whole, because its competitiveness and selling points are more derived from the camera under the screen, and then offset the cost of mass production of the camera under the screen technology with compromises on camera, motor, speaker and body texture.

However, a mass production machine with the nature of technological exploration still needs a special look. After all, ZTE, as a mobile phone brand that is not particularly large today, can take the lead in taking out the mass production model of the camera under the screen and form a differentiated selling point. In terms of the implementation effect, the impact of the Axon 30 upper and lower screen cameras on the screen display is still objective, but it has been processed to a level of weak perception. The forward imaging effect is also available, which can be said to be mature.

As a pioneer, the pricing of the Axon 30 is also very sincere (considering that the all-around screen pioneers Xiaomi MIX and vivo NEX in those days can both take off at 3000 yuan). At the beginning of 2198 yuan, you can buy a Snapdragon 870 level full screen model under the screen. Compared with the K40 and iQOO Neo 5, which are famous for their cost performance at the same price, you can also say that it is not bad. According to current rumors, Xiaomi and other manufacturers will successively launch offline camera models, but they are expected to be flagship. ZTE Axon 30 may be the only offline camera model around 2000 yuan by the end of this year.
