Vivo S10 Pro evaluation: playing with small steel cannon
Vivo S10 Pro evaluation: playing with small steel cannon

Last week, Vivo released its new S10 series, which focuses on thin and light products and self portraits. This is the second update of the Vivo S series in the year. Compared with the S9 in the first half of the year, the S10 series has not changed much, mainly in terms of color matching, main specifications, and fast charging power. Instead, the starting price has decreased. We also tested the S10 Pro (the difference between S10 and S10 is that the main camera is 100 million pixels and equipped with NFC) to see how powerful the core model of vivo is.

appearance

The vivo S10 Pro generally continues the design of the previous generation of S9, and still uses a full screen with narrow bangs on the front. It should be the only one in the mobile phone circle with holes everywhere in 2021 except Apple. It is rumored that Apple will still use the bangs on the screen in the next year or two, but the width of the bangs will continue to narrow. Maybe S10 Pro will be the design vision of iPhone 15.

There are also two front soft lights hidden in the frame of the front panel to "illuminate your beauty". I have to say that this micro slit soft light is really ingeniously designed. Straight male users who do not play selfie may have used it for a year or two without knowing that there is such a thing hidden in the front of their mobile phones.

The flat metal middle frame used by S9 has also been continued on S10 Pro. The upper and lower parts of the middle frame have been cut by CNC, which adds some points to the overall texture. However, there is still a layer of step transition between the middle frame and the screen, so the sense of integration is slightly lacking.

The design of the camera module is different from the two-stage cloud stage adopted by the previous generation. The one we got is a velvet white color matching. In addition to the camera module and logo, the back is a whole white AG glass cover. Compared with the main Qiguang Huancai color matching this time, this one may be more suitable for users who are pursuing simplicity.

Thin and light is also one of the selling points of vivo S10 Pro. The whole machine weighs 173g and is 7.43mm thick. Due to the processing of the right angle middle frame, the perception of "thin" is not very obvious when holding it, but it is really light, and there is no burden after wearing the protective case.

performance

The vivo S10 Pro uses the hardware combination of Tianji 1100, 12GB LPDDR4x memory and 256GB UFS 3.1 flash memory, which is basically the same as the previous generation. Let's first look at a set of theoretical performance test data:

Flash Memory

It can be seen that in many projects, the vivo S10 Pro has to compete with the Redmi Note 10 Pro, which is the same as Tianji 1100. Of course, there is still a gap between this year's high-end mainstream Snapdragon 870 model.

In terms of games, we selected Glory of the King and Peace Elite for testing.

At present, the vivo S10 Pro does not support the 90 frame mode of Glory of the King for the time being. There is little pressure under the normal 60 frame and extreme image quality mode, with an average of 59.7 frames and a frame rate fluctuation of 1.9.

The Peace Elite can run 84.6 frames (frame rate fluctuation 22.9) on average under 90 frames and HDR HD image quality (unlocked by a third-party tool), which is even better than the previously measured Snapdragon 870 plus 9R (there is a factor of conservative scheduling). At the same time, the body does not feel significantly hot after a game.

Previously, the Vivo S series did not focus on performance as the main selling point. However, from the actual measurement, we can see that now with the support of Tianji 1100, the S10 Pro can cope with relatively high load scenarios with a lot of ease. The gap with the flagship is no longer as obvious as the Vivo S5, which used Snapdragon 712.

screen

The video S10 Pro screen is still the 6.44-inch, FHD+resolution, 90Hz refresh rate AMOLED screen on the S9. It should be a hard screen when viewing the reflected rainbow patterns from a large angle.

(vivo S10 Pro default standard mode P3 gamut coverage)

(The default standard mode of vivo S10 Pro corresponds to the color accuracy performance of P3 color gamut)

The measured maximum brightness of manual full white is 395 nits, and the maximum brightness of local area is 500 nits; Three color modes are provided: standard, professional and gorgeous. The default color temperature in standard mode is 7706K, covering 130.9% sRGB and 92.2% P3 gamut. The average color deviation value in P3 gamut is 3.6; Professional mode basically corresponds to sRGB color gamut, color temperature is 6528K, and the average color deviation value under sRGB color gamut is 3.3.

As for the smoothness of daily use of the 90Hz refresh rate, there is not much difference from the current mainstream 120Hz. In terms of power consumption, it is also conducive to the S10 Pro, which has a smaller battery.

The vivo S10 Pro is equipped with 108 million pixel Samsung HM2 main camera, 8 million pixel ultra wide angle camera and a combined 2 million pixel macro camera. However, it is a pity that there is no optical anti shake provided by the previous generation (iQOO Neo5 has already explained how powerful the mid tier computer equipped with optical anti shake can be), so the film rate and film effect under weak light can only be said to be negligible. The selfie is still a combination of 44 million front main shots and 8 million ultra wide-angle dual shots. The main highlight is that it supports autofocus and 4K video recording.

Endurance&Charging&Others

The vivo S10 Pro has a built-in 4050mAh battery. This series has always maintained a battery capacity of about 4000mAh. It is now a proper small battery.

I thought the endurance must be the bottom, but after Love to play computer games In the 2.5 hour endurance test, the remaining power is 71%, which is at the midstream level compared with other tested models. In addition to the power control of Tianji 1100 and the optimization of vivo itself, it may also be related to the fact that the 90Hz screen is slightly more power saving than the mainstream 120Hz screen this year.

In terms of charging, the standard fast charging power of vivo S10 Pro is upgraded from 33W of S9 to 44W.

It is measured that the charging starts from 1%, and it takes 5 minutes to charge to 17%, 30 minutes to charge to 73%. It takes 51 minutes to fully charge. During the charging process, the actual maximum output power is 36W, which drops to 28W after more than one minute, and drops to the range of 23~24W from the fourth minute. This output power lasts the longest. The mobile phone shows that there is still a period of trickle charging at the charger end after full charge.

In terms of the battery capacity of 4050mAh, this 44W can only be said to perform mediocrely. At present, except for the 120W of iQOO 7 and the 66W of double cell of iQOO Neo5, the fast charging of models belonging to the vivo brand is not very successful.

In other aspects, it may be necessary to complain that the S10 Pro is still equipped with a single speaker and a rotor motor. The speaker may not matter to me, but I am used to the kind of interactive feedback brought about by the linear motor (including but not limited to unlocking, clicking the switch, and full screen gestures). When I return to the rotor motor or turn off the vibration feedback, I feel something is missing in the interaction, I hope Vivo can pay more attention to the next generation of models.

summary

Thin and light, fashionable appearance, soft light selfie... It is obvious that as a large factory that has been working offline for many years, vivo still enjoys the selling points of offline female user care. Online hard core computer users may not be too interested in vivo's S series, and my original impression of it may be a self portrait, but after testing and playing with it, we also found that the S10 Pro is still a bit of a small cannon in terms of hard indicators such as performance release, smoothness of use, endurance/fast charge, etc, It can be regarded as a medium end product with texture and comfort.
