TrendForce: iPhone 12 mini has stopped production

All kinds of data show that the iPhone 12 series released last year sold well, except for the iPhone 12 mini. As early as the beginning of the year, there were bad news about the iPhone 12 mini. On June 22, TrendForce, a market analyst, said that the iPhone 12 mini had stopped production.

On October 14, 2020, Apple released the four brothers of the iPhone 12 series. In addition to the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro with a 6.1 inch screen, it also provided a new flagship iPhone 12 mini with a 5.4 inch screen and a 6.7 inch screen iPhone 12 Pro Max with a "larger than larger" screen.

The iPhone 12 mini is not only the lowest price in the whole series (starting at 5499 yuan), but also has the highest 476 ppi in the whole series with its 2340x1080 super retinal XDR display. The 133g weight is even more difficult to break through in 5G mobile phones (although only 2227mAh batteries).

But in fact, the number of users who choose the small screen iPhone is far less than everyone and Apple expected. It is rumored that the global sales of the iPhone 12 mini only accounts for 6% of the total revenue of the iPhone 12 series:

  • The report of CIRP, a research organization, shows that from October to November 2020, the sales of iPhone 12 mini will be poor, not as good as the earlier released iPhone SE and iPhone 111;

  • On January 21 this year, the Morgan Stanley investment analysis report revealed that Apple had cut the production order of the iPhone 12 mini by 2 million units and would transfer production capacity to the iPhone 12 Pro;

  • On February 6 this year, JPMorgan Chase speculated that Apple would stop production of Phone 12 mini in the second quarter;

  • On June 22, TrendForce, a market analyst, predicted that the iPhone production would increase by 12.3% this year (to 223 million units), and said that the iPhone 12 mini had stopped production.

According to the report, the supply chain analysts of JPMorgan Chase cut the production forecast of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini by 9 million and 11 million respectively, and Apple is expected to increase the production of iPhone 12 Pro Max by 11 million.

Although the palm of the hand is hurt by the big 236g iPhone, it seems that many people have decided to choose the iPhone 12 Pro Max instead of the iPhone 12 mini, which is "very comfortable to hold, looks a little small, but often has to run to recharge". The "small screen party" continued to shout forcefully, while tears often appeared in the corners of the eyes.
