Google Pixel 6 Self developed Chip GPU Exposed: Mali-G78
Google Pixel 6 Self developed Chip GPU Exposed: Mali-G78

The Google Pixel series of mobile phones, as the "pro son" of the Android camp, have never been sold in China, but they have always attracted the attention of players. In addition to the new appearance exposed, a large number of revelations about Google Pixel 6, a chip developed by Google itself, have emerged recently.

On May 28, XDA, a gathering of foreign gods, found in the logcat of Google IssueTracker (forcibly translated as "Google Issue Tracker") released by Google employees that the device was considered to be Google Pixel 6 (code name P21), and the GPU it used was Arm's Mali-G78.

This news confirmed the revelation that Google's self-developed SoC would not cooperate with Qualcomm. Google's SoC, code named Whitechapel/GS101, is rumored to be manufactured by Samsung, with 5nm process, customized IPS and NPU (Google has researched it by itself many years ago).

The CPU may be a dual A78 large core with six A55 small cores, but it is impossible to achieve the performance between the rumored Snapdragon 865 and the Snapdragon 888. In addition, the number of Mali-G78 GPUs leaked this time will be more than 6 because the number of GPU cores below 6 can only be called G68 (previously, MediaTek Tianji 900 only had 4 cores, so it can only be called Mali-G68 MC4). This GPU should also be sub flagship to flagship.

As a reference, the SoCs previously equipped with Mali-G78 GPUs were mainly Samsung Exynos 1080 and 2100, respectively, MaliG78 MP10 and MaliG78 MP14 (10 core and 14 core GPUs respectively), and Huawei Kirin 9000 (Mali-G78 MP24) directly stacked at the end of the G78 architecture.
