Ren Zhengfei said Huawei would never sell the terminal phone business

On February 9, it was reported that Ren Zhengfei, the founder of Huawei, said in an interview that we can transfer 5G technology, but we will never sell the terminal mobile phone business, and will adhere to globalization unswervingly.

After the sale of Glory mobile phone business, rumors of Huawei selling business appeared on the Internet recently. On February 8, Huawei dismissed employees who spread rumors. On the morning of February 9, Ren Zhengfei publicly refuted rumors in Shanxi and said that Huawei would not sell its terminal business.

Ren Zhengfei said:

  1. In 2020, Huawei's sales revenue and profit achieved positive growth. My confidence is bigger, not smaller. We have more means to overcome difficulties;

  2. Don't understand that terminals are mobile phones, as long as the terminals are connected with people and things. For example, the laser radar used for driverless cars, the gas meter, water meter and TV set used for home applications are all terminals, and the mobile phone is only one part of the terminal ". It also emphasized that "we can transfer 5G technology, but we will never sell terminal mobile phone business;

  3. We still need to rely on globalization to solve the problem of chips. In any case, we will never give up the ideal of globalization. No matter how sanctions and blockades are imposed, we will adhere to globalization unswervingly. When the global chip surplus, someone will come to us to buy chips, I think there will be this era.

Huawei released the latest flagship Huawei Mate40 series at the end of last year. Maybe because of the insufficient number of Kirin 9000 chips and other reasons, it is hard to find a new machine. After several months, it is still hard to rush to buy it. The scalper quotation is still high, and it has been promoted to the level of "new generation financial products", even close to the level of "nihility".

The lack of supply of mid-range chips such as the Kirin 800/820 and the Kirin 710 series is also reflected in the supply of Huawei's mid-range models. Recently, Huawei nova7 SE, suspected 4G Huawei P40 and other models with chip specifications changed have also appeared.

Although affected by strange factors, Huawei's global shipments fell to the fifth place in 2020, but Huawei is still the first mobile phone manufacturer in China in terms of shipments. The latest folding screen phone Mate X2 will be released on February 22.
