IDC, a market research organization, released the shipment data of the domestic smartphone market in the second quarter of this year in a report today.
Although the overall shipment of 87.8 million units in the domestic market in the second quarter fell 10.3% year on year, Huawei (including the Glory brand) still bucked the trend of growth. In the second quarter, 39.7 million units were shipped, up 9.5% year on year, and the market share reached 45.2%, a record high.
IDC said in the report that Huawei's domestic market currently accounts for more than 70% of its global overall shipments. Therefore, through its continuous domestic growth, Huawei was able to basically offset the year-on-year decline of about 29% in the overseas market, and ranked first in the global market in terms of shipments in the second quarter.
With the escalation of sanctions from the United States and the growing caution of overseas sales channels in choosing Huawei products, Huawei's dependence on the domestic market will further deepen in the future.
Among the other four major manufacturers, Vivo, OPPO and Xiaomi all saw their shipments decline by about 20%. With the release of the second generation of iPhone SE and the promotion of online channels during the "618" period, Apple achieved an 11.6% increase in shipments in the second quarter of its traditional off-season.
In addition, the report also said that the overall shipment of 5G mobile phones exceeded 43 million in the second quarter, and the addition of more chip platforms reduced the average unit price of 5G mobile phones from $556 in the first quarter to $464. Due to the strength of Huawei's models in China, the Kirin chip platform accounts for more than half of the 5G models on the market. Although the 5G chips of MediaTek are increasingly favored by manufacturers, the 8.4% share of the 5G models on the market is still not very high.
