It is probably not controversial that the iPhone 12 series will support 5G. Previous analysis and prediction mostly believed that Apple would support 5G functions through the external Qualcomm X55 base.
However, on June 18, DigiTimes, a Taiwanese media familiar with the supply chain, said that according to industry insiders, TSMC has started to produce A14 SoC and X60 5G baseband chips from Qualcomm since June, both of which will serve the new generation of iPhone, using the latest 5nm process technology.
Qualcomm X60 5G modem was announced in February this year. It uses a 5nm process technology and a new QTM535 millimeter wave antenna module. It supports 7.5Gbps downlink peak rate and 3Gbps uplink peak rate. It adds the characteristics of carrier aggregation and dynamic spectrum sharing, and can double the peak rate through carrier aggregation under the SA network, It also supports VoNR 5G high-definition voice call solution.
However, Qualcomm officials previously said that the commercial time of the X60 is expected to be 2021, so whether Apple can get the chip and use it in a new machine more than half a year in advance is now a question mark.
