On January 8, it was reported that recently, MediaTek launched a new SoC - Tianji 800 at CES 2020, and announced that the mobile phone equipped with this SoC would be launched in the first half of 2020.
The Tianji 800 adopts a 7nm process, which is a mid tier 5G SoC and the first 5G SoC used by MediaTek for mid tier smart phones. Like Tianji 1000, Tianji 800 supports dual carrier aggregation (2CC), which is more than 30% larger than other 1CC and carrier free aggregation platforms. The new SoC supports SA and NSA dual-mode, 2G to 5G multimode and dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS) in the sub-6GHz band, and supports VoNR and other services.
The Tianji 800 uses four Cortex-A76 CPUs, with a maximum frequency of 2GHz. Four Cortex-A55 CPUs can also reach 2GHz. From the perspective of specifications, its CPU is close to high-end SoC. The Tianji 800 supports the FHD+(1080p) screen with a maximum refresh rate of 90Hz and four cameras with a maximum main camera of 64 million pixels. It also enables the camera to have AI autofocus, face recognition, automatic noise reduction, automatic white balance and HDR functions.
It is reported that the GPU of Tianji 800 and Tianji 1000 belong to the same category, which support HyperEngine technology and can improve game performance.
The direct competitor of Tianji 800 is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 765G. Li Zonglin, head of the wireless business department of MediaTek, said: "MediaTek has launched its flagship 5G smartphone solution - Tianji 1000. Through the 800 series of 5G chips, we will bring 5G to the midrange and mass market. Everyone should have access to great technology. The Tianji 800 series will provide power for the new high-end market of 5G, and bring the features and mid-range price of flagship smart phones to consumers. "
