On December 2, it was reported by foreign media that an American organization called TrueDialog would provide an "enterprise level SMS solution". A database of this organization was recently hacked. VpnMentor (a company ranking virtual private networks) found the leak of TrueDialog database. The information that hackers can obtain from this database includes tens of millions of SMS messages, millions of user names, and passwords of American users (some are plaintext, some are encrypted, but it is easy to decrypt).
A large number of people are affected by this attack. vpnMentor believes that TrueDialog failed to protect the database. "It is not difficult to find the identity of the database owner. Their host ID is' api.truedialog.com '. It is obvious that this is a huge data leakage event, endangering the privacy and security of more than 100 million American citizens."
The database is hosted by Microsoft Azure and runs on Oracle marketing cloud in the United States. It contains 1 billion entries, totaling 604GB of data. This data includes information about TrueDialog's business, its business customers, and its customers. All these data may be sold to marketers and fraudsters, used by criminals for fraud, and the property in some people's financial accounts may be lost.
VpnMentor found that the database was invaded on November 26. On November 29, TrueDialog closed the database.
