On December 6, it was reported that Counterpoint Research, a research institution, recently released a report on global high-end smart phones. Although the market share of global high-end smart phones fell by 7% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2019, 5G helped alleviate the decline of high-end smart phone sales, because it contributed 5% of high-end smart phone shipments.

In the third quarter of this year, Samsung led the 5G market with 74% market share, followed by LG (11%) and vivo (5%). Analysts said that the early application of 5G in China, South Korea and North America was very rapid.

In terms of the whole high-end smartphone market, Apple still leads its friends with a market share of slightly more than half, Samsung with a market share of 25% ranks second, and Huawei with a market share of 12% ranks third. Surprisingly, Yijia and LG both ranked in the top five with a share of 2%, rather than other larger brands. The remaining manufacturers accounted for 8%.

The hot sales of iPhone 11 at the beginning of its launch pushed Apple to the top of the list, and the continued production and sales of iPhone XR also helped.

According to the report, 80% of Huawei's high-end smartphones were sold in the Chinese market, which enabled Huawei to operate normally, compared with 73% in the same period last year. Counterpoint believes that this trend will continue, because Huawei's competition in overseas markets is becoming increasingly difficult in the absence of GMS (Google Mobile Services), so it needs to increase its domestic market share.
