On August 15, it was reported that the Israeli camera technology company Corepotonics recently filed a lawsuit against Apple, claiming that the dual camera technology used by the current iPhone infringed many of their patents.
Over the years, the Israeli company has filed several lawsuits. According to Corepotonics, they have been negotiating with Apple since 2012 and have been discussing the dual camera module in detail with Apple's engineering team.
In addition, as early as 2012, Apple obtained the right to use the "five element telephoto lens". In 2014, it obtained the right to use the test board and lens, as well as black box simulation files, software simulators and system prototypes for lens design. Corepotonics said that this is crucial to the development of the iPhone camera module at present.
Apple released the iPhone 7 Plus in 2016, but this time it did not reach an agreement with Corepotonics in advance. In fact, an executive of Corepotonics contacted Apple again one month before the product release, hoping to restart the cooperation negotiations, but it was unsuccessful.
In November 2017, the camera technology company inspected the camera modules of iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 8 Plus, claiming that the zoom technology used by these two phones depended on the patents of Corepotonics, and then launched the company's first patent infringement lawsuit.
Following the second lawsuit against iPhone X in April 2018, the current lawsuit is about iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. It should be noted that Samsung acquired Corepotonics for 150 million dollars, but the two sides have not issued an official statement.
